How many of you have been successful stalk hunting into thick cover close to a bucks bedroom and killing a big mature buck from the ground . Stalk hunting is tough I've been doing it a lot lately and seen a few deer, it's a challenge and will test your patience .

What kind of weapon do you use? It seems to me you would have a lot of running shots.

My favorite thing to do on rainy days This. Or if its just finished raining. Much easier to go in ninja mode when the ground is wet.

I've narrowed a good mature buck down to about 20 to 25 acres that I believe is his primary bedding area, or atleast one he uses a lot .. I have a camera set up on a creek crossing I know he is using its been there about two weeks I checked it three days after I set it out didbt have a pic by then but I seen some fresh buck tracks that were not there when I set it out so I guess it missed him .. I have never been all through the area that I think is his bedding area. ( just got permission to hunt it three weeks ago ) I believe his bedding area is near the the head of an underground spring on higher ground that leads to the creek crossing where I have the camera. There are a ton of rubs going up the draw to the spring head and in the area . Most of the area is 12 to 16 ft tall thick pines with the draw running down the middle . With a few runoff ditches washing into the draw . I'm going to go back and hunt the creek crossing .again soon and check the camera. I can acsess the tract of land (roads on three sides ) from basically any direction . I expect this joker is going to be crossing that creek at night, it where the spring runs into a bigger creek in an open hardwood bottom. If so I'm going to try stalking in his bedding area . Any tips ?

How many acres total do you have to hunt? If it is a small tract of land, you may bump him out of his bedding area into the next county. It just seems like a risky move. I would personally stay put and hope to catch him walking by. It would just be a matter of time.

They don't call my father n I the slippin Lip's for nuthin.....by far my favorite way to hunt during the rut and my most successful way also. What you discribed though, sounds to me he will probably see you coming long before you do. Hunt that creek crossing in the mornings a few times this year and if you dont get him, on the last day of the season set up in that draw (escape route) and have another guy walk in through his bedroom and try to run him to ya.

And 35 on each side of a dirt road that meets the paved road where I have the 30 . Picture a t intersection Im hunting land on all sides .

I wabt a lever action 30/30 ir a marlin 35 with iron sights .. I'm talking about really stalking as in taking an hour to go 200 feet I have a 30-30 94 with a red dot. I'm stupid fast with it. For that stalking type hunt it is absolute dynamite.

In the grand scheme of things, 100 acres isn't much, just like the 60 acres I hunt to myself. If you invade his bedding area, he may move for good if he has options. If you have a water source, I would setup around it with all this hot weather we have been having. He has to cool down.
