My oldest son shot this doe at 24 yards this morning at 7:30. I have never shot Rages but after seeing the size of this hole I may reconsider.

He got down just an hour after shooting the doe and when he found her he saw something black moving on the ground near her, Buzzards had already got it to her and ate out her eyeball and had started eating her hind quarters and a-hole. We cut off about 2" of hind quarter meat which was about a 1/2" beyond where they had been picking. I'm thinking the meat should be fine but I have never seen buzzards get on one that quick.

Sounds like they have worked for you very well and probably poor shot placement changed your mind.

The photo Muzzle posted above looks like the Rage went through the rib bone pretty well.

This is the first deer I ever shot with a 2 blade Rage. This was in northeast Missouri in 2010. It was an 18 yd. broadside shot and I hit her way far forward. She went about 200 yds, but the blood trail was pretty gory...I'm almost convinced that if you hit a deer with a 2 blade Rage anywhere other than square in the guts, you'll recover that deer. I've recovered deer that were hit in the neck, head, hind quarters, etc. pretty easily. If you hit a deer in the vitals with these broadheads, the blood trail is plain nasty!

They wouldn't stay screwed in tight on our arrows. They would come loose because they didn't have o-rings. So, I never used them. My Dad shot at one deer with his. He missed, picked up his arrow and the broadhead fell off his arrow before he could get back to his truck. He swapped back to the Thunderhead 100s like we've been using for years and never thought about the Rages again. Glad y'all like them.

It blasted right through the third rib dead center and cut through the second and fourth rib but not completely because the blades weren't that long, but it was impressive. I will stick with my slick tricks but my son loves him some Rages.

I finally gave in and figured I'd try out the Rage Hypodermics this season. Had been shooting Ramcats, and have had good luck with them. Had a doe at 15 yards broadside. Shot was about perfect, it centered on a rib on entry though. SHot was not high and not sure what caused it, maybe just the shock to the rib tied into the spine, but it more or less took her back legs out. Double lung shot with a huge entry and exit with only her front legs to try and run with. In the picture you can see my arrow stuck in the ground from the pass through, and seen how far the deer made it in the top of the picture, it was impressive. THough I very well might have had the same luck with any fixed broadhead as well. My first try with Rage has impressed me, but I still have my doubts about a quatering in shot and the shoulder. I dont' shoot for the shoulder, but wouldn't be concearned about shouldering one with the Ramcats inside of 20 yards.

They are a great head as long as your setup produces enough KE to push them through a mature buck. Especially if he is quartering to or away from you. No matter what head I'm shooting I prefer to have an exit wound. I'd rather have 2) 1-3/16" holes than 1) 2" hole. The exit wound will put more blood on the ground if shooting from a stand due to the fact it will be lower. I killed around 10-12 deer with rage heads and they do work but I was disappointed with their performance on heavier deer. I however have a shorter draw length which robs me of some KE. Those with longer draws and heavy arrows may not experience the same issues. I much prefer the penatration of a fixed head and if everything is properly tuned they will fly and group like field points. Not everyone has the know how or tools to do so and I don't know of a bow shop that is going to take the time to do it right if they know how. So I see the convenience of mech. Heads to the average hunter. That being said shot placement is everything and with proper shot placement any head on the market will result in a clean fast kill.

I've disproved that theory several times. But I've also had it not go as well. I think if you hit a certain spot in that shoulder it don't make a crap what your slinging out of a bow, it ain't going through.

Took my most questionable shot with a Rage this weekend, actually an old two blade I shot a yote with my Hypodermic on the way to my stand. 28 yd. sevre quartering away tcuked it in mid body and a little low thinking bottom of lung and or heart, no exit thats how severe the quartering was, but buried to the fletching she ran 40 yds. and piled up, I have been and remain a Rage fan

Questionable shot placement is still questionable shot placement with any broadhead.

I don't personally use them but every deer I have seen shot with them looked like the above pictures with great blood trails.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

I've been using extremes the past few years with great results. As always, there's going to be the great debate on whether or not you should use expandables. I have been bow hunting for quite some time and have shot deer with numerous heads and the ones I've lost was hunter error!! It is really hard to argue though with some of the blood trails I've seen with rage, even on marginal shots.

I call bullchit. A rage will damn sure go through bone. I have shot through 2 deer shoulder blades, 4 deer spines, 1 deer femur, and 2 coyote spines all with rages and all animals were recovered. At this point I have shot about 20 deer with the plain old school cut on contact 2 blade rages and I have lost 2 due to poor shot placement. If you need proof, I have pics of my last deer spineshot and a pic of the broadhead.

Im not a rage guy... But I was in Kentucky and ran out of replacement blades and only had 3 good swhackers left... So I got to walmart and all that have is the 2 blade rage originals.. So I got a pack and figured it would be okay.. Fast forward to Sunday morning.. Im walking in the woods and hear a clanking sound from my bow. I look my bow over and find that 2 of the 3 are open.... I get set up and try and get them back in the stupid rubber piece to no avail... These have never even been knocked or shot. I am not pleased with rage anything... Since they bought nocturnal those are crap now too... Thanks for this thread so I can email rage and try and get my money back..

Rage originals suck! Hypodermic all the way. No rubber O ring.
