Went today after work for first time in a while. Walk about 3 miles in the bottoms found some old rooting. On the way out I walked the ridges and found a ton of fresh sign but never got on them. Wallers and rub up trees waist high all over the place. Was in an area I dont usually hunt looking for new spots.

No telling how many grade/big timber I've seen that will die from hogs rubbing and eating the bark off. Seen several big pines just bleeding out at the base from hogs.

Hello. My son and I are looking to hunt there the first time ever in ?January Feb of this year.

I've talked with a few wildlife officials down there recently and they tell me the highest concentration are around zone A on the WMA. But there have been some Forrest fires recently and there might have been some shifts,

Can someone sort of clue me in to where to start to go in blind?

Thanks in advance.

Doughboy,

They are tough to locate, but when you find them, it's usually 10+ pigs together. Bring good hiking boots when you go. The terrain is difficult. I'd recommend you hit the opening weekend of the special opportunity hog hunt in early March. The woods get crowded with hunters and they get the pigs on their feet.

Don't be fooled by the Internet research you see. They are not hiding behind every tree in that forest.

If you go look for them on top of ridges mopping up on the last of the acorns. This year the acorns were hit and miss some area's had a few and others none at all. You will have just as much chance seening a hog as a deer. But don't expect much because you don't see many deer in Bankhead either. Sense bow season I have prolly seen 20 hogs and maybe 15 deer.

Killed one a couple weeks ago. I was sitting on the group watching a ridge and had 10-15 to come.
