OK so your sitting in your stand and its been a pretty quiet morning. Your about to nod off and you hear a buck grunt in front of you but out of sight. What do you do? (After you put your phone back in your pocket) Grunt back at him, give him a soft doe grunt, maybe doe bleat at him?
What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

I sit and wait, all the while betting it is actually somebody instead of a deer.

Sit and wait. Grunting in that situation would be a really go way of getting yourself spotted and giving away your position.

You've waited a little while and nothing comes your way. You know there is a buck close but he's not in your kill zone. Wait some more? Pray? Get aggressive?

(After you put your phone back in your pocket) Grunt back at him, give him a soft doe grunt, maybe doe bleat at him? Ease my bino's up & find his *ss & then shoot him. Had this happen many times; if he's close enough for you to hear him grunt, he's close enough to die.

First look, ease gun into ready position and wait. Then if he's not coming my way already ,or not close enough to see me, buck grunt. I use a deep adult grunt, I want to challenge the mature bucks, I don't care if it scares 2 and 3 year olds away.

You obviously hunt flat , wide open spaces. I've had many close enough to almost powder burn and can't see them.

You've waited a little while and nothing comes your way. You know there is a buck close but he's not in your kill zone. Wait some more? Pray? Get aggressive? Wait, you ain't got a plane to catch. Maybe a couple more toots on the grunt after a while or tickle the antlers if you have them. Prayer never hurts in any situation.

I typically grunt back unless its repeated grunts coming closer or I hear them walking my walk....

Just wondering what others do when I had it happen this morning. If I hear it but can't see it, I'll wait and hope it comes my way. If after a few minutes it doesn't show, depending on the time of year I'll either give it a soft doe grunt or a dominant buck grunt. If they are chasing I'll sometimes doe bleat a couple of times. Killed one of my biggest pulling him in with a doe bleat.
What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

5 Aggressive deep short grunts, like another buck is chasing a doe. If it's one of the big boys in the area he might run straight to you. I have only had a few deer avoid a grunt and run off and most of the time it's the young bucks scared he is going to get that tail whipped. I'm a Bowhunter and have a lot of experience with grunting and use it in 60% of my hunts. Even if I see him and it's not a shooter I will play with them just to learn how they react for future in counters with other bucks. Buck/Doe ratio plays a huge factor in the reaction. Good luck and practice with it.
It is hard to kill or catch anything sitting on the couch!

I'd never hear it grunt. I can barely hear them walking in the woods anymore.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
