Just want to urge y'all to get checked out by your doc every so often. My wife has been trying to get me to get a mole looked at for over a year so i went and got it removed. Biopsy says its precancerous and I need to get checked out again in 6 months. Glad I didnt wait any longer.
Also got a friend with prostate cancer that hopefully was caught early enough to resolve. I've only had to deal with the cornhole check once during a VA disability exam. Thankfully the dr had thin fingers. I am starting to get closer to the age where it will need to be checked every so often.

Point being, I hate going to dr but want to be around for as long as the good Lord sees fit. Hope y'all do too, take care of yourselves.

My doctor likes the blood test on prostrate checks instead of the finger. He says there is part of the prostrate that they can't feel and the blood test is better. I have a physical every year.

Good deal, I'll make sure I remember that when the time comes. And if he doesnt agree I'll have some questions for him!

Once you reach 40 every male should have a checkup every six months. It can save your life. My Dr. monitors my psa numbers to keep a check on my prostrate every six months. My numbers have always been high and high numbers usually indicate a possibility of prostrate cancer. With early detection there is almost a 100% success rate.

Just three weeks ago during my scheduled checkup, my numbers had gone extremely high up to an 8.3. The Dr. scheduled me an appointment with a specialist and they did another test on the psa numbers. This time they were up to 16.5 and he scheduled me a biopsy of the prostrate for yesterday and I had it done. I will not get the results back until next Tuesday afternoon. If it is just minor problems and not cancer, it will be no problem. If it is cancer it has been detected at an early stage and is completely treatable. I plan to have the entire prostrate removed if it is cancer. I am not fooling with it at all. I plan on being here for at least another 20 years and the scheduled checkups were what may have saved my life. Don't play around with your life! B

I can't stand a thief.

To each his/her own.

I'm good. Emergency medical care is fine if needed but I'm usually good with sewing myself up if I can reach it with both hands, splinting minor non-displaced breaks, removing any weird growths up to about an inch, etc.

I just feel that all that invasive early care for stuff I am probably going to have anyway is stirring a pot that would do better if left alone.

A guy I use to work with had the radioactive pellets inserted into his cancerous prostrate 40 or so years ago and as far as I know he is cancer free. Removing the entire prostrate is a touchy surgery, but they might have improved the procedure by now..

Are you really being serious? Just so I'm clear here, you think preventive care is a waste of time?

Doc he has just never had anything happen to him before to scare him. When that happens he will sing a different tune.

I've been to the emergency room with chest pains absolutely sure I was having a heart attack (costochondritis from martial arts class I taught earlier in the day), I've been to get things sewn up that were out of reach and needed it, I've been to the eye clinic for an eyeful of construction adhesive (don't ask how that got there), had a node removed from left flank that was too deep for me to get to and similar things.

Preventative medicine that is invasive I am just not interested in. Especially if it's cancer. I've watched friends who were treated aggressively and friends who weren't treated at all and a few in between and I am convinced that someone like myself would be better served by not treating it.

As a prostate cancer survivor, I urge anyone who has one to get it checked out regularly. I did not have a problem until I did, it was caught early, removed robotically, Then I had radiation because my PSA was still up. Now I have my PSA checked every 6 months to be sure there nothing going on.
Now prostate check is not the only thing a Dr. uses a DRE (Digital Rectal Examination) to check for. There are hemorrhoids, rectal and anal cancer and possibly blood in the stool.Remember Farrah Fawcett? She died of an anal cancer that should have been caught and removed before it got serious.
Then there is the colonoscopy that men and women should have every few years. Its as pain in the you know where, but if any little polyps are found and removed you will not develop colon cancer later.
Sure, some of this is embarrassing, but it beats going through life with a bag to chit into. Just think of the exams your wife or girlfriend goes through every year, are you less of a man than she is?

Ignoring medical care is f'king stupid. But to each his own.

I go each year for a checkup. We have a family history of heart disease and cancer. We have good insurance and I don't mind a minor inconvenience of a checkup once or twice a year, EKG, peeing in a cup, bloodwork or whatever to make sure things are OK.

"Oh, I don't want someone poking around my butt!" Fine, get cancer and die an agonizing death.

"Ah, it's just a little stomach pain." Fine, have a burst appendix and get sepsis.

"Eh, it's just a really bad headache." No problem, have a stroke and be an invalid on the goverment tit.

Judge Sharpe is right, too, about women's examinations. Men have it easy. If men had to have their testicles squashed between two metal plates to try to detect cancer like women do for breast exams or lay on our back and have our ass wrenched open with a metal spreader to check for prostate cancer, we'd have had a cure for both of them about 30 years ago.

Get your checkup guys. I had my spa drawn at 49, had prostate cancer. Had the surgery and everything was good for 3 years old then the psa began to climb.
I had 38 radiation treatments and have been good for 8 years now.
I had no problems indicating PC so you need the checkups to catch it in time for a good outcome!!
