Looking for advice on how/what to keep the new puppy(choc lab) contained with during the day while I'm at work. Obviously he can't be in the kennel that long yet. We have stained concrete floors so clean up isn't too much of an issue.

How old is the puppy? I'm in the process of trying to find a puppy and he will live in his kennel while I'm at work and will be brought in to sleep in a crate at night during cold weather.
What are you concerns with leaving him in the kennel during the day? He will be 9 weeks when we bring him home this weekend. Main concern with leaving in the kennel is he can't hold his bladder yet.

We crate trained our dog, and I don't think I'll ever do it again. On days that nobody could stop by and let him out for 8 to 10 hours, it had to be borderline abuse. I know the vet said 2 hours for every month since birth, but dang, I just don't think it was fair to the puppy. My dog turned 10 Friday, and it still bothers me, the hours we kept him in a crate while we were at work. This is kind of my thinking. Many of you have stated at 3-4 months old he will have control. But what about the 4-6 weeks until then? I'm just trying to avoid any set backs for the pup.

Ron - I bought something like below for my pup but never even opened the box. You are welcome to have it, I'm in Milton. I crate trained my dog, but she typically doesn't stay in there for more than a few hours. Plus I have a dog run and a fenced in yard. If I were not going to be home during the day and had a new pup, I would find a way to keep it contained in a bathroom or somewhere with tile floors and put the puppy pads down until it was able to let her out. I'd try and swing by during lunch or have someone else if possible. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H8Y...nceSuccess=true
