I'm usually joking and messing around on here but this is actually serious. I've had some things going on the past couple days and wondered if anyone has had a stroke and what your symptoms were?

If you think there's even a small possibility, get your tail to the doc. You can Google and find reputable sources for some common symptoms but don't trust a bunch of folks on a message board. If you're serious go to the doc.

Think F.A.S.T.

FACE Does one side of the face droop?
ARMS Is one arm weak or numb?
SPEECH Is the speech slurred?
TIME Time is critical.

Call 911 or get to the hospital immediately

Additional symptoms of stroke include:

Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg
Sudden vision change
Sudden speech problems
Sudden confusion or trouble understanding simple statements
Sudden problems with walking or balance
Sudden severe headache that is different from past headaches.

We were eating lunch in aliceville yesterday when my head started pounding my left arm left side of my face and tongue went numb tingly. Couldn't get my eyes to focus. I dont remember anything until we got off the exit back to tuscaloosa then i fell back (asleep?) Till i got to my parents house.I should have went to the er but without insurance I didn't want to go and rack up a big bill. I missed work today something I've never done cause I still feel like chit. Had a couple dizzy spells and my eyes are still sensitive to light

Symptoms could be CVA (stroke) or possibly a migraine. Either way, you need a CT of your head to determine which it is. ER is where you should be going if you aren't already headed there.

Are you continuing to have symptoms. If not it could have been a "ministroke" called a TIA. Though most ischemic strokes dont usually present with a headache it doesnt mean you did not have one. If it was a TIA you are prone to have a bigger stroke later. Get your butt to the ER and get checked out.... Has your headache gotten better? If it was hemmoragic you would prolly be dead by now though it could be a slow small bleed. Your family needs to be very observant and on the lookout for increasing symptoms that you do not realize is going on

There are some folks that probably want you to stick around for awhile, so don't play with your health like that. It might not be anything big, but if it is, you are taking a gamble that you might not win.

Go to a "doc in the box" if you don't want to go to the ER, but get yourself seen!

Go to the doc ASAP even though you are better. I'd probably take a 81mg asprin every day until you get to the doc.

You ate too much pork. You must be a moslem, a fairy, or a female trapped in a male's body. The best thing you can do is walk it off.

I had one at the ripe old age of 28. I was in really good shape and it took the doc a long time to diagnose what was written all over my face. Mine came from dehydration due to having a serious stomach virus for 3 days straight. I went completely blind first, then came slurred speech, right sided weakness and facial droop.
Man, go to the doc. It's nothing to play with. I made a full recovery, but I was at work at the fire station when mine happened and I went immediately, because I KNEW what was happening. Everything I studied in medic school was happening to me!! I made a full recovery, because I WENT TO THE ER IMMEDIATLY.
Not to ease your mind right now because you need to go to the ER, but my sister had stroke like symptoms and it was a rare type of migraine. The pain wasn't like a migraine and she had blurred vision, one sided numbness and a couple other things that I can't recall. But she is a nurse and thought she was having one too. That doesn't mean you aren't having one, so again, GO TO THE ER!

NO! Don't take Aspirin! If it's was a small bleed, aspirin is a blood thinner and will make the bleed worse. Everything blood touches in your brain is DEAD TISSUE. Don't take my word or anyone else's other than the ER doc that you need to get ur ass in the car with someone else driving and go see!

He's been on here long enough to know what was about to happen. The amount of people that are willing to play Russian roulette with their lives due to hardheadedness, financial problems, this, that, and the other just shocks me. A lot of people need to step back and take a long hard look at reality and think about what it would be like for their loved ones if they died, or worse to me, became a vegetable. All because you acted like a fool and didn't do what it took to POSSIBLY prevent that situation. Please, please, please, don't play with your health! Signs of stroke and heart attacks are posted everywhere. If you think what is happening to you falls under those signs and /or symptoms, call 911, or if you just have to, have someone drive you to the ER immediately!! Technology and medicine have come a long way! But they can't be used on dead people. Go to the doctor!! If you want to cut your finger off and rub some mud on it, have at it. Don't go to the doctor because you sneeze or cough and wait til you're almost on your death bed......fine by me. Just don't ignore something that you KNOW can kill you almost instantly. That's almost a form of suicide!! Don't be a hardass! Go to the ER!!

Let us know what the doctor says. I think they can draw blood to test for a stroke. I had an extreme vertigo episode ( never had one like that before). Went to the ER because i couldnt walk .They told me they could tell if It was a stroke with a blood test.

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

It worries me that we haven't heard anything else from him. Anyone know him personally that can call/text/Facebook/whatever?

In this case I'm afraid "No News" is not good news. guess its time for us to pray for him . To me the pain in left side sounded more like a heart attack. Numbness in left arm, short of breath.

Most likely a migraine, however you need to be seen and scanned.

That is clearly stroke symptoms. There are other causes, but I've had far less serious symptoms turn out to be strokes. So I err on the side of caution and treat every possible symptom as stroke. There is a small window for treating and reversing stroke injury. You are unfortunately well past that time frame.

Damn the cost, go see a physician.

I had a stroke a couple of years ago. I was napping before going in at midnight and woke up about 7PM with my left side(arm and leg) tingling like it had gone to sleep. I rolled over where I thought it would get the circulation going again and went back to sleep. Woke up again about an hour later with same symptoms. Got up and showered, symptoms also included a feeling of weakness on that side. I knew something wasn't right. Went to ER and they said stroke. They also found the benign tumor I my inner ear I'm dealing with, but that is another story.

After months of tests and CT scans the neurologists finally decided that my CPAP wasn't putting out the pressure it should have been and apnea caused the stroke. Every now and again my left side has a feeling of weakness, although I did not lose any muscle strength. That is the only lasting effect from the stroke. Balance and ringing in my ears from the tumor is my big issue now. Glad you went to Doc. They should be able to tell if it is a stroke from the CT scan.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I had an episode about a year and a half ago. My wife thought I had a stroke and she forced me to the ER. I had a CT scan which showed no sign of stroke. I followed it up with a MRI of the brain just for safe measures.

What happened was I woke up at 2 AM to pee. I remember peeing but don't remember anything else. I had a syncope which caused me to faint and I hit my head on the bathroom wall which caused a concussion. My wife heard me fall and found me on the floor. It was a pretty bad deal. It took me 6 months to completely feel like myself again.

It will Probably not be nearly as bad as it would be if your family was lighting a candle in your memory on their first Christmas after you died.

I was going to say stroke at 26 would be nuts. Sounds like that may not have been the case. If they come back and say tumor don't freak out, could be something like a meningioma that's benign and operable. I had an aunt that had a huge one removed in her 50s and she made it through fine. Good luck man and keep us updated.

They want the money for the test up front. The CT scan was 400 I think the mri is going to be around a 1,000 and every office visit is 100-150

I'm not trying to get in your personal business but you should see if you qualify for Medicaid.

Obamacare, seriously. They can't turn down previous conditions, and a lot of people get approved even if they work.

A couple of lessons for you young people on here that I bet Beadlescomb wishes he had known:

1. If you think you are having a catastrophic medical event, go to the ER. They will treat you and if you don't have insurance they will send you a bill. If you are honest, the hospital will then work out a payment plan with you. If you are dishonest, just ignore it like about half of the ER patients do and the rest of us will eventually pay it off for you. Of course this will put you in the bad credick category in the Burhead Jones commercial though.

2. You are never young enough to not need health insurance. If you can get it through a job, take that over a job with slightly higher pay. When it is needed, the insurance is gold.

Beadlescomb, I hope you are well and the abnormality is just an old concussion, which apparently looks similar on a CT scan, it confused the docs in my situation for a bit. Please do not think this post was aimed at you, but was aimed at all the young guys on here, that may find themselves in a similar situation one day. If it sounded like I was chastising you, I apologize, that was not my intent. Prayers for your situation.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

That's about right but as long as you have insurance they will do any test needed and bill you for whatever insurance does not pay. $6500 is a lot of money but you can get set up on a payment plan. It's better than nothing and will keep you out of bankruptcy and maybe a worse fate. Prayers sent.

Your health is the most important thing and you have a lot of people praying everything is OK. What bill said is correct. I had a CT scan done 5 years ago with insurance and they sent me a bill for $1500. We called the office and asked them if we could work out a payment plan. She gave us some options and told me that if I could pay $600 right then that would settle it. I paid it and got a statemtnin the mail saying we were paid in full.

Without your health, virtually nothing else matters. You can't work or play if you're incapacitated. If you'll take care of yourself the resulting bills can be worked out later. You can do irreparable damage to yourself by ignoring things like this.

Good luck. We are all praying for you. Keep us posted please.

I'm praying the OP is getting better!

Jawbone, you said what I was thinking. Health insurance is something that you CANNOT afford not to have. Young folks listen up. It's a gamble like any other insurance. And it sucks to pay for it but how I look at it is this way. If I don't have to use my health insurance, then I've had a blessed year.

You pay for auto, home, and hell, some folks have their freaking SxS and ATV's insured but don't have health insurance. They spend $200/month on cable and a phone but don't have health insurance.

Finding out what the problem is will give you and your family relief. Insurance is almost something you have to have. My doctor's nurse told me she had an emergency appendicitis operation last year and she said the bill was almost $56,000.

Dont be above creating a gofund me video type thing. A whole lot of people request money for foolish things and get it. This is a real need and possibly lifesaving. Praying that God's healing power washes over you.

Not having insurance is killer. I pay around 200 a month through United healthcare. I'm not much older than you. I did buy my plan before the mandate so I don't know of prices would be different now.

Man, if you've paid 1 penny of taxes in your life, don't worry about the insurance. Think about all of the illegal immigrants, and Koreans that go to the ER, then skip town. That , plus , using BCBS Alabama as an example, the Executives have DOUBLED their compensation packages since Obamacare!!! They can't deny you service, and if they send you a bill, send them 2 dollars a month for the rest of your life. I had emergency brain surgery and got a $27,000 dollar bill for things that ''were not '' covered under my insurance and because I was operated on at an out of network hospital. I told BCBS of Georgia they could either write it off or talk to a lawyer because I wasn't paying them a @#$%^^&ing penny. I never heard another word from them. I'm not for government insurance, but I'm also not for what we have now either. If Julio and Enrique can go and skip town, every American should be able to do the same.

Wow Morning Air...that's really terrible that you would be that way. A $27k bill for your life that the folks at the hospital fixed for you is pretty dang cheap. The doctors and nurses went to school for a long time to be able to treat you and fix you up, I bet they have tremendous student loan debt. I bet the engineers who built the hospital also have bills to pay, and the janitors who keep the place clean so you do not get an infection also have bills to pay. And just because you have a problem you think the tax payers should foot the bill.. That is really sh1tty of you. That kind of behavior is just the kind of thing that good, honest, hard working folk complain about. I bet you call people like me racist cause you have a problem with yourself.

And I wish I could afford insurance but it's just not in the cards right now. I don't have cable or extras just so I can afford to hunt

If you are that broke then sell the boat, buy obamacare for the meantime, get some schooling so you can get a better job, and keep in mind that you do not have to hunt deer but you can hunt hogs year round.
Heck, there was a time in my life that my primary hunting vehicle was a Mazda Protege sedan. I loaded deer into the trunk and taped the back closed with duct-tape.

I'm not a freeloader. I worked my way through college and I work 60 to 80 hours a week and have since I was a teenager, and will until I die. My employer disputed, and BCBSG paid the claim, but BCBSG tried to get ME to pay it. I've seen the doctor several times since my surgery and he's a great guy. The point I was making is NOBODY, NO AMERICAN, that's paid taxes and premiums, should be afraid to go to a doctor because they don't have insurance. I make good money, and I pay very high percentage of it in taxes and premiums, and I have seen first hand immigrants and Koreans go to the ER, then skip to their country and not pay another dime. The healthcare industry and healthcare insurance industry is not hurting for money either way. That's the point I made.

Why did your employer dispute a personal claim on your insurance?

The point you made was this: Don't pay the bill because others haven't. That was pretty clear in your post. Even Ray Charles could've figured out that inference.

I don't give a damn how many hours you work, if you don't pay your bills, you are a free loader. By your own admission, you make 'good money' so pay your damn bills. You, sir, are the problem. I feel the same way about Julio and Enrique, but at least they had the decency to skip town.

I was in a coma, on a vent, and was transported to an '' out of network facility ''. At the time, the only doctor that my physician could reach worked at a private hospital. They transported me there, did the surgery, and I lived. There was not another doctor qualified to do the surgery anywhere in our network at 9p.m. on a Friday night. The company I worked for was self insured, so my employer worked something out to pay the balance with BCBSG. This was 13 years ago, but I think I only paid about 5900 out pocket for the whole ordeal.

You sure about that?

Nationwide hospital closures:

http://www.beckershospitalreview.com/finance/9-hospital-closures-so-far-in-2015.html

It's hitting a little closer to home as well:

http://www.decaturdaily.com/news/north-a...463830609d.html

http://www.dothanfirst.com/news/top-stor...almost-50-years

Your inference that one should not pay his or her bill is insulting. I don't know what you do, but I'd very much like to be a consumer of said good or service so that I can obtain it for free. I mean, it works for healthcare, right?

In your first post you said they billed you for $27k, and you told them to pound sand because you were not paying jack, now you say you paid $5.9k.......

Was your policy with bcbsg or your employer? Either way your were covered by a policy which clearly specified your coverage.

Well I'll say this some of these hospitals are screwing insurance companies..My mother received a bill for 8,000 dollars, and my step-dad spoke with the billing department at the hospital. And He explained she was un-insured and they sent a new bill for 2,800 bucks..

The 27k bill had to do with the hospital they took me to for the surgery. We had a list of in-network facilities. The one they transported me to was not in the network for the employers self insured plan. I paid, I think 5k to the hospital that I was transported from, and a little over 900 to the out of network I was transported to, in the first set of bills I received. Then I got the 27k bill about 2 months after I was home for procedures performed out of network. I had no say in which hospital they took me to, I couldn't wake up and ask them to hold up until they could find an in network facility. I don't know how much my employer paid of the 27k, but the claims were paid because they sent me 2 bills for 27k 2 months in a row, and I never got another after I called them, and gave the bills to the group that managed our plan. Sorry if I'm a free loader. I was just trying to let the guy know to not be afraid to go to the hospital over money. And yes, hospitals are closing, especially the small rural ones that everyone needs, but some are thriving, and Blue Cross is doubling Executive pay packages, and posting record profits under Obamacare, so it can't really be a suffering industry as a whole, compared to manufacturing or other industries. That's all I was saying.

I'm glad someone is screwing the insurance companies, they have been screwing us for the last couple of years.

I can agree that the hospitals give it to the insurance companies. Had a $15,000 bill my old insurance wouldn't cover. Hospital billed me for $6,500. When I called the billing department they said if I could get $3,400 that it would be paid in full. I sold some luxury items to make that happen.

The hospitals are definitely screwing the insurance companies.
I was in the hospital for five days back in 2012 for an infected spider bite.
The statement I received from the hospital was for $55K ! A few days later my insurance statement came in. It showed where BCBS settled with them for $11K.
I'm thinking if I didn't have insurance they wouldn't have tried to bill me that much.
I could be wrong.
I just thought it was crazy that they billed BCBS $55K and settled for $11K.

Ya'll are saying the hospitals are screwing the insurance companies, but I've always looked at it differently. The insurance companies are strong arming the hospitals by telling them "if you want to be on our list of providers, you'll take what we pay you and be happy about it or our customers will have to take their illnesses somewhere else". I bet Bamaeyedoc will tell you that is essentially how it happens to doctors also.

Of course the original bill from the hospital is inflated because they know they are going to have to settle for a lesser amount anyhow.

At least this was keeping insurance rates tolerable. Until Obama decided he had a better idea.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Skinny, funny you mention that, I had a buddy at a bar one night in auburn telling me about this picture a girl had put on facebook of some redneck driving through dadeville with a deer strapped on the trunk. Looked at it, and yep, sure enough that was me in the ol 1997 mazda protege'. Hauled out a lot of dead animals, and went through a lot of mud holes with that sucker.

Thats the very reason the rest of us have to pay so much for our coverage. And another reason the damn rates are so high for most medical procedures to begin with.

Skinny i had a SAAB and black poly in the back(hatchback). That beast was front wheel drive and would go anywhere. Hauled deer out in the hatchback. Would not recommend this to anyone else.

I wish it was that simple but the truth of the matter is that hospitals & providers overcharge people every day. I'm not saying that I disagree with the point of your statement but there is a LOT more to consider than that.

Beadle, money may be a concern but your health should be at the top of the list. You have something serious that needs to be diagnosed and repaired. Take care of yourself, God bless and I hope things get straightened out.

I'm the last guy that should police thread hijacking since I've done more than my share in the past but I think it would be a good idea to start a new thread if we want to discuss the problems with health care.

Being in debt is not bad while your still alive, keep that in mind. You can't get over being dead. You can make more money but you can't make more time, so take care of yourself for the people that love you and that you love.

I hope you get better soon. I'm no doctor and I don't play one on TV but could it be some sort of inner ear thing? I had inner ear problems as a child and I'll never forget the dizziness and throwing up. I'd probably weighed 300 plus in Junior high school if it wasn't for the chunks I spewed then.

I went to the neurologist today. He thinks there is a medication that may be able to control it for now. We are going to try that and it's basically going to be a wait and watch to see what happens. Hopefully it will work and there won't have to be surgery. I know I still feel like crap. My motor skills are still off and it feels like I'm walking around in a fog.

Praying you man. If the dr gave advice on changes necessary then heed the advice. Diet, smoking, exercise, stress can affect you tremendously. It sucks to quit all the bad stuff but after a while you wont regret it. Take care!

A bulging blood vessel in the brain is an aneurysm and you had all the symptoms. Look it up on webMD. You are lucky really because often there are no symptoms until they rupture. In my time working in a hospital I watched two guys with ruptured aneurysms die while the staff was pretty much helpless to do anything to prevent it.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

If they didn't order surgery it is likely very small and low risk. Don't sweat it. Just do what the doctor says.

Revisiting this ... you had a 'bulging blood vessel' in the brain, i.e. an aneurysm, and some meds. Also got fired from your job?

So what's the latest? How's the medical problem and job outlook? Things going better?

I've still having dizziness and headaches. Like I'll get dizzy and throw up. I go back to the doctor early next week.

I had a job interview yesterday and turned in my resume to a couple other places. The place whacknstack works for is looking to hire someone so I'm hoping something comes from that. I've done a couple little odd jobs here and there. Hoping to find something permanent soon

Well, good luck.

Did you and your friend at the former employer get things worked out. Sounds like a sucky way to end a long friendship.

I've been thinking about this lately. What did the doctor tell you when you went back last week?
