I don't give a damn how many hours you work, if you don't pay your bills, you are a free loader. By your own admission, you make 'good money' so pay your damn bills. You, sir, are the problem. I feel the same way about Julio and Enrique, but at least they had the decency to skip town.

I was in a coma, on a vent, and was transported to an '' out of network facility ''. At the time, the only doctor that my physician could reach worked at a private hospital. They transported me there, did the surgery, and I lived. There was not another doctor qualified to do the surgery anywhere in our network at 9p.m. on a Friday night. The company I worked for was self insured, so my employer worked something out to pay the balance with BCBSG. This was 13 years ago, but I think I only paid about 5900 out pocket for the whole ordeal.

My employer disputed, and BCBSG paid the claim, but BCBSG tried to get ME to pay it. I've seen the doctor several times since my surgery and he's a great guy. The point I was making is NOBODY, NO AMERICAN, that's paid taxes and premiums, should be afraid to go to a doctor because they don't have insurance. I make good money, and I pay very high percentage of it in taxes and premiums, and I have seen first hand immigrants and Koreans go to the ER, then skip to their country and not pay another dime. The healthcare industry and healthcare insurance industry is not hurting for money either way. That's the point I made.

You sure about that?

Nationwide hospital closures:

http://www.beckershospitalreview.com/finance/9-hospital-closures-so-far-in-2015.html

It's hitting a little closer to home as well:

http://www.decaturdaily.com/news/north-a...463830609d.html

http://www.dothanfirst.com/news/top-stor...almost-50-years

Your inference that one should not pay his or her bill is insulting. I don't know what you do, but I'd very much like to be a consumer of said good or service so that I can obtain it for free. I mean, it works for healthcare, right?

In your first post you said they billed you for $27k, and you told them to pound sand because you were not paying jack, now you say you paid $5.9k.......

Was your policy with bcbsg or your employer? Either way your were covered by a policy which clearly specified your coverage.

Well I'll say this some of these hospitals are screwing insurance companies..My mother received a bill for 8,000 dollars, and my step-dad spoke with the billing department at the hospital. And He explained she was un-insured and they sent a new bill for 2,800 bucks..

The 27k bill had to do with the hospital they took me to for the surgery. We had a list of in-network facilities. The one they transported me to was not in the network for the employers self insured plan. I paid, I think 5k to the hospital that I was transported from, and a little over 900 to the out of network I was transported to, in the first set of bills I received. Then I got the 27k bill about 2 months after I was home for procedures performed out of network. I had no say in which hospital they took me to, I couldn't wake up and ask them to hold up until they could find an in network facility. I don't know how much my employer paid of the 27k, but the claims were paid because they sent me 2 bills for 27k 2 months in a row, and I never got another after I called them, and gave the bills to the group that managed our plan. Sorry if I'm a free loader. I was just trying to let the guy know to not be afraid to go to the hospital over money. And yes, hospitals are closing, especially the small rural ones that everyone needs, but some are thriving, and Blue Cross is doubling Executive pay packages, and posting record profits under Obamacare, so it can't really be a suffering industry as a whole, compared to manufacturing or other industries. That's all I was saying.

I'm glad someone is screwing the insurance companies, they have been screwing us for the last couple of years.

I can agree that the hospitals give it to the insurance companies. Had a $15,000 bill my old insurance wouldn't cover. Hospital billed me for $6,500. When I called the billing department they said if I could get $3,400 that it would be paid in full. I sold some luxury items to make that happen.

The hospitals are definitely screwing the insurance companies.
I was in the hospital for five days back in 2012 for an infected spider bite.
The statement I received from the hospital was for $55K ! A few days later my insurance statement came in. It showed where BCBS settled with them for $11K.
I'm thinking if I didn't have insurance they wouldn't have tried to bill me that much.
I could be wrong.
I just thought it was crazy that they billed BCBS $55K and settled for $11K.

Ya'll are saying the hospitals are screwing the insurance companies, but I've always looked at it differently. The insurance companies are strong arming the hospitals by telling them "if you want to be on our list of providers, you'll take what we pay you and be happy about it or our customers will have to take their illnesses somewhere else". I bet Bamaeyedoc will tell you that is essentially how it happens to doctors also.

Of course the original bill from the hospital is inflated because they know they are going to have to settle for a lesser amount anyhow.

At least this was keeping insurance rates tolerable. Until Obama decided he had a better idea.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Heck, there was a time in my life that my primary hunting vehicle was a Mazda Protege sedan. I loaded deer into the trunk and taped the back closed with duct-tape.

Skinny, funny you mention that, I had a buddy at a bar one night in auburn telling me about this picture a girl had put on facebook of some redneck driving through dadeville with a deer strapped on the trunk. Looked at it, and yep, sure enough that was me in the ol 1997 mazda protege'. Hauled out a lot of dead animals, and went through a lot of mud holes with that sucker.

I'm not for government insurance, but I'm also not for what we have now either. If Julio and Enrique can go and skip town, every American should be able to do the same.
Thats the very reason the rest of us have to pay so much for our coverage. And another reason the damn rates are so high for most medical procedures to begin with.
