Was having lunch yesterday with two of our clubs past presidents we were discussing opening day set strategies. After looking back at our observation logs from the past few years we realized something i wanted to share. It seems that everyone is always eager to get into that first set, sometimes theys mind is made up weeks before. It is alway a game time decision for us. We have all fallen into the first day set of that trophy rock set, or the I put some apples out last week 30 yards in front of my stan potts double ladder set, or the lure of putting out sugar beet crush on the perfect set just prior to hunting it opening morning, right? Well you had better rethink your set if you want to get on that mature white tailed buck, or doe opening morning. Instead, try not hunting your perfect opening set, its what we do. We have built a sanctuary that attracts deer, because we built it that way. So we hunt opening weekend with a deferent mindset. We spot and stalk deer coming into our sanctuary. This allows us to keep pressure off the sanctuary and we see our recruiter deer going into it. Its like hunting an observation stand without going into the sanctuary. If we spook a deer into the sanctuary its a win, win. We enjoy stalking our early season deer in their summer patterns and you can lay down mocks while you hunt. Just something to consider and I know what works for us. I hope everone kills a nice mature white tailed deer on the opener!

The Ignore feature is a wonderful thing. I don't waste any more moments of my life having to read their posts, among others. I want to read things worth reading and see pics worth seeing. Few and far between around here it seems.

I'm hunting a persimmon tree on opening day that I found while wandering in what looked like a sanctuary. Someone was watching me with binoculars from an observation stand though. Kind of creepy. I would've been sayin something lol
Its better to sit in a stand and think about God, then to sit in church and think about hunting.
