Those mountain curs do hate squirrels dont they? They just about would climb a tree if they could.

Thanks. Yeah or try and take your finger off if you try to take a squirrel from them lol. It only hurt for a few days. I just found out about this breed a year ago and they are awesome.

I like those yellow dogs, did she bite you on purpose? I've never seen any aggression towards me or mine out of these dogs. If she did it may be time for a training collar, you'll have a tough time getting the meat from them under the tree.

No she didnt do it on purpose. I was reaching to get the tail from her as she was getting a better grip on it. She isnt aggressive towards me but you get a tail out she is gonna try an kill it an nothing is gonna stop her.

I love it. That pup was my pick, my boy picked the last female of the litter. She is a tear headed pup right now.

If there was anything negative about Sadie right now that I'd put my finger on, I'd say it would be her being so hyper and her mouthiness. Seems like everything she encounters has to go into her mouth.

I'm thinking that's just the puppy in her. Goodness gracious, that pup will wear you out.

LOL, yes her mama was like that as a pup, they calm way down after the pup stage!

I was fortunate this morning to pick up a very nice freshly road killed squirrel that was still warm when I got it. No blood or guts hanging out of it like the one from the other day.

I got a piece of small diameter cord and tied around it's neck and proceeded to have a ball with Sadie.

I have worked Sadie somewhere around 2 hours (off & on) with it today. I tried to keep each session short and I tried to quit before she lost interest. She actually reared up on the tree and barked for the first time at it.

She is real aggressive chasing the squirrel across the yard as I drag it. When she catches it she doesn't want to let it go. I have somewhat of a hard time getting it away from her.

I'm encouraged to say the least!


I threw my cord over a limb and pulled the squirrel up the tree. Sadie couldn't stand that thing getting away from her!

I haven't ever trained a squirrel dog before this. I'll be the first to admit that I really don't know a whole lot about it. Any advice or tips will be gladly accepted. I do know that I am having fun!

Im right there with you Cuz. Honey was my first one and i just got another male thats about 8months old and you can tell the difference in just those few months on how they act. He will jump dang near 8ft up the tree after one. I have been told just get them in the woods and they do all the work so thats what we do.
