I know many of you will remember the thread in the Aldeer Classifieds about Oakachoy's Original Mountain Cur pups that he had for sale. There was only one brindle pup in his litter and she happened to be a female, which was just what I wanted. This pup generated a lot of interest from several folks on this site. After contacting Bob, I was very blessed and so very fortunate that I was able to wind up with her as my own. I named my new pup "Sadie" (I did not know that was her dam's name until after the fact) and it was almost immediately that we began to fall in love with this puppy. I think my wife is as fond of if not more fond of her than I am. This pup goes everywhere with me except to work and to church. I am talking to my pastor right now about getting her a place to lie beside my pew at church on Sundays. J/K, of course! My plans all along have been to make a squirrel dog and a companion dog out of her. She is well on her way to being a great companion and we just started working on the squirrel part of the equation yesterday. She also wants to herd my cows with no encouragement whatsoever from me. She is just doing this on her own. Sadie is 4 months old today and I have had several PM's from a few folks inquiring about how she is doing. So, I decided I'd do a thread with some PICS and let those who are interested know how she's coming along. Hope you enjoy the thread... This is the PIC of Sadie that Oakachoy had in his Aldeer ad. She was probably 4 or 5 weeks old here. This is a PIC of Sadie the day we met Oakachoy in Alex City and picked her up. She was 7 weeks old the day we got her. She crashed in my lap and slept all the way home. Before crashing on the day we got her, Sadie was loving on me when we first got in the car with her. We began to bond immediately. This is one of my favorite PICS of Sadie. Here, she is 9 weeks old. She jumped up on the retaining wall beside my driveway and just sat down with a look like she was saying, "Aren't you gonna take my PIC?" She loves this wall. On a Sunday afternoon after getting in from church, Sadie got bit by a Copperhead in my yard on the right side of her muzzle. She was 11 weeks old at this time. My vet told me to give her a 25 mg Benadryl and my wife cooked a 1 lb. pack of bacon of which we took all the grease from and got it down her. On Monday afternoon, the day after Sadie got bit by the snake, she went to the hayfield with me to move rolls of hay to the house. She climbed up on this roll on her own. No sign or side affects on Monday of the snake bite whatsoever. Sadie on the wall again, checking out what's cooking on the grill. She is 14 weeks old in this PIC. I have no idea what her infatuation with this wall is. She stays up on it. Sadie herding one of my calves. She will bark and nip at their heels. She bit this calf's tail and held on while this calf ran across the field. Little gal's got grit! She is 16 weeks old in this PIC. She can barely reach over the lip but she loves drinking from and playing in the stock tank.

PIC quality is not great but still another favorite PIC of mine. She is watching a low flying plane that passed over my place. She stood still and watched it until it was out of sight. Sadie with her first squirrel. It was a road kill that I picked up yesterday that was in pretty rough shape. I skinned it out and salvaged the hide. Tied it to a string on a pole and this pup went absolutely crazy over it. I wore her out getting her to chase it this afternoon. I let her play with it and chew on it a little while before taking it away from her this afternoon. She showed a lot of interest in the squirrel. Hoping she's got what it takes to make a decent little tree dog. She will tree the heck out of my cat! Sadie has been to the vet 3 times for deworming/vaccines and is now finished with all of her vaccines. She is soon to be micro-chipped and I am still undecided about spaying her a little later on. Leaning more toward spaying than not. At her last vet visit she weighed in at 20.5 lbs. She will sit, stay, come to you on command, shake hands and is crate trained. She loves to ride on my tractor, my 4 wheeler and in my truck. I just can't get over how smart she seems to be. Thanks Oakachoy for a great pup. She is truly a part of our family!

I'll admit I'm envious even though I am dog heavy right now. Congratulations on a fine addition to your family.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Great looking pup! It is crazy how attached you can get to them and how they truly become part of the family. Good Luck with her and keep us up to date!

She looks great Cuz! Looks like she is going to be super smart. You're putting the time in with her to make way more than just a squirrel dog.
Adopt the pace of nature, her secret is patience. Emerson

What is the purpose of giving her the bacon greese?

man great dog!
Thats what the best dog Ive ever owned is...a brindle mountain cur just like her.
Shes tough as nails and smarter then most people.
Very protective of my family too.
Anyone trying to ever bother my wife would have to kill that dog or she'd kill them first.
There is nothing she wouldnt fight either...bear...hog...just one tough, pretty and smart dog.
Without a doubt the best dog Ive ever have.
And lord help you if youre a squirrel. She can just about get 6 ft up a tree after them if shes at full speed.
watch her around roads. If theres a squirrel on the other side..they do not even look for cars..they just GO!
Shes been hit twice chasing them across streets and cost me a lot of money...but dang I had to save her.
If she dies..as tough as I am, Ill cry like a lil girl.
Good luck with her. Mine has the exact same white paws, face and chest too.
Very pretty dog you got there.

I let Debbie read this and she teared up, it warmed her heart to know that Sadie is with such a great family. Thanks again.

What is the purpose of giving her the bacon greese? I don't really know. Old timers recommend it and claim it'll save a dogs life. I guess the grease helps absorb the snakes venom. Not sure???
