I believe our state can do it because we have high herd numbers like Texas and we are finally feeding somewhat like they've done for decades! Where AL kills me is the lack of soybean production and trophy management that Kentucky implements! They have field judging videos/classes before you go out in KY paid hunts! 130" min and heavy enforced fines are very strict but that produces, just look at how KY produces top 5 B&C! Forage soybeans are cheap and you should plant late spring/ early summer to enhance multiple food plots for Deer and Turkey! It also provides good N for your soil (nitrogen fixation) Soybeans require very little N if any so even 8-8-8 would be ok! You can get away with a mid April heavy planting but the deer and weeds will get them by June if not before so come back with roundup and plant again in late May! Eagle brand are expensive but are roundup ready! Stonewall are the most practical brand! A good summer plot should have a bean field with multiple mineral sites for maximum calcium/phosphorus / high protein supplements that provide a far better yield than expensive feed that could potentially spread disease which in turn causes your wacky/one sided bucks! Proper food sources and a cost/time effective approach along with smart trophy management and AL will compete with free range Texas and Kentucky monsters!

Just get everyone piddling in the pine plantations and broadcast the soybeans. Too many people in this state worry about sanctuaries and what not and they should focus more on throw n' grow beans.

Comments like the above are reasons why AL deer hunting is sub par to other states! Your an idiot or we will never or should ever be compared to KY or TX! I'm glad people attempt to do this but this was meant for a casual observer! Not a pessimistic ass clown who has no life outside of trolling Aldeer all day! It's an attitude problem in this state and frankly a positive/ knowledgeable message that isn't enforced legally or practically by the everyday hunter and game wardens!

i find some of your statements wrong anyway. If you really think KY forage soybeans contribute to their "monsters" in a significant way you're nuts. It's the 100,000's acres of row crop corn/soybeans that do that. And stonewalls aren't even planted north of Tn to any extent anyway

To the original poster... What is your stand on deer sanctuaries?

It's just a cost and time issue for the average hunter in doing summer plots! If we had half the effort in doing summer plots the way winter plots are done then that's a great improvement towards the nutritional element! I just vehemently despise people who abuse the law and kill like 8 2-3 yr old baskets a year! Just look at some of the biggest hunting clubs in AL they're struggling bc other states have better management/laws/law enforcement than ours and it's a shame!

No shucks all the best hunting in KY is around the farmlands of the ohio and Mississippi River flood plains and the miles of soybeans! The point is going from 15% or less summertime plots to around 40% and that would be a big boost but well never get to that with a loser cynical attitude!

Just FYI corn is a great attractant and good when deer have no food. It's a good carbohydrate but it sucks when it comes to protein and mineral suppliments!

A deer sanctuary is where you let trophy rocks roll down a kudzoo privet lowland where no man steps foot except when to check the twelve cameras guarding the outside of it. When checking the cameras you must strip down bare naked and mud yourself like Schwarzenegger in predator! Finally while the mud is fresh you must put on your skinned deer like those old Native American deer hunting pics! Your ready to check cameras without INTRUSION!

would it not be the clubs fault there? The biggest ones in the state should have enough land to halfway manage there herd. It would take a long time, but the biggest clubs in the state has probably been around longer than most on his site has been alive.

Up here in North Bama we grow corn and soy and it looks like the midwest.

Im surrounded by soy. Jeez....great novel idea though. slap

you hunt Texas ever??? I have over 20 times. If you think there are great free ranging 170 s running around Texas everywhere you need serious help.

Ive also had huge leases in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and more, etc. Biggest deer I ever shot was 169 7/8 right here in Bama.

Comin in here calling people names isnt a real good plan either Junior.

Why would you want AL to be compared to KY or TX, and if you like those places so much, just go hunt there? Not sure what you're going for here...

If you've hunted over 20 times in Texas and haven't bagged a 150 plus then what's the point of spending thousands of $$$ out of state in other leases and paid hunts? The best image I've seen on this site is the Cash with cake in a bush yacked out of his brains. And the free-base cocain video. I would suggests Ted Williams vids and Rack em Willie vids!

BS. I hunted there for over 30 years, until I moved here. Never saw a 150 the entire time. The reason is simple, there is a large part of the Texas deer herd that will not genetically produce a 150 or better buck. You can shove all the protein you want down their throats and let them walk until they die of old age they will never hit your 150 mark.

Youre dumber then a bag of rocks arent you?

Does your mom know that youre on here?

I did outdoor TV clown. It was my JOB to go there...hunt and film. Same with the other states.

You need to grow up...put down the remote and turn off the outdoor channel, and go get some fresh air.

Youre embarrassing yourself...though you do keep us entertained.

Boy you are stupid arent you. I know why too...you obviously cut school today didnt you Junior?

I said if you thought there were 170 inch free range deer running around Texas that you didnt know chit.

I have actually filmed a 173 inch Texas buck dying..but just 1. Ive had two in the 160s on my shows from Texas, but mostly 130 -140 inch bucks...because guess what? 170 inch bucks are very RARE!

They aren't as prevelant as you...who I would venture a guess NEVER has hunted either Texas or the Midwest,.. think there are.

We killed 189 inch buck on my Illinois lease, and I shot 150 inch deer on video right here in Alabama. I even posted the video on here.
But you were probably still in diapers then.

It was at least 6 months ago.

Ive shot a 170 inch buck .. and a few 150s, a bunch of 140s, and throw 120-130 inch horns in a box in my garage. Ive posted both pictures and videos on here of them.

Ive killed bucks in Tx, Il, Wisconsin, South Dakota, heck..even South Carolina, NH, VT, NY, PA, and more states then I can name.

Ive seen the best in management practices in the country...and 170 inch deer are hard to come by anywhere. It is why they make the Boone and Crockett book idiot...because they are RARE!

I highly doubt if youve ever even seen a 150!( other then on hunting shows...which you obviously watch too many of) If you did youd pee yourself probably.

You wouldnt know one if it bit you in the arse.

It is obvious that you know nothing about deer management, midwest hunting, Texas hunting or basically even Alabama hunting.

There is great hunting right here in Alabama...you obviously just dont know of any good places..probably because you couldnt afford them.
However, if you saved the weekly allowance your mom gives you every week...and maybe mow some lawns on the side...you could probably save enough to join an OK one.

Dont be afraid to miss out on your favorite hunting shows...just get out there and find some older neighbors who need their lawns mowed. Youll save enough in no time if you put you nose to the grindstone.

Good luck
