We lease a tract of land from them in Marengo County. We were up this weekend and noticed Blue marks on a section of our older age class pines. They were in small groups maybe 2 or 3 trees wide , that would run into the woods 60-70 yards deep. Most of the trees marked were skinnier than the rest of the bunch. Last Winter they flagged the same area for Prescribed Burn. I know a lot of posters on here are in the business and may shed some light on my questions.

Also, I understand George Robertson has retired from Scotch and Paul Padgett has taken over George's day to day duties.

Thanks Guys for your answers

Can't help you with the paint, but ol george didn't quite "retire" by choice

Sounds like they marked poles in the stand. That is a pretty good description of 35's being marked. Unless you're talking really small trees, then they are likely cut boundaries.

They are marking a thinning in some way or another. Expect a timber sale soon.

Thanks NightbHunter and Rebelman

You were correct , Scotch called us back on the Blue Painted marked trees. With our lease being above normal on water carrying potential there planning on a select thinning followed by a burn in the next 30 days or so That's good news on both accounts. I hate in season timbering but it's worth the long term upgrade in topography
