I bought the camo ones at walmart. Just pay attention to the thickness of the strap. I always coated the ratchet with vasolene after on the tree. I That being said Id use a chain and turn buckle on top, rachet on bottom to hold it steady.

I hang the stand with the chain first. Then I put just any normal ratchet strap on top AND bottom as a 2nd measure. The chain is holding most of the weight (should a strap break), the straps are primarily just securing the stand to the tree.

One end of the chain is bolted or with a closed S hook permanent, other( loose) end is hooked with a S hook. I put the chain over a limb, screw in step or spike. I cinch it down in place and add a ratchet strap top and bottom.

If its not made for a chain, I drill a hole and use an eye bolt .
Squirrels in some places eat straps, they break their teeth on chains. use a turn buckle to tighten the chain or one of the chain links that screws closed. A tip is to put the chain on the tree 2 or 3 inches above where you want the stand. When you push down the chain tightens since tree gains girth as you go down.

2 dogs I put my screw in step above the stand so I can grab it when I step from ladder to stand . I hang my back pack on it then.

This is a good way.. Or use a turnbuckle... If you need an open end side..... I like these cuz you can cinch them down tight and loosen them fairly easy when you need to move em.....

Right, most of mine have the chains added. I do have a few old Gorillas that came with chains. If I'm in a loc-on it has a chain.

Are the turn buckles steel or aluminum? I figured steel would rust up and you couldn't turn em

My loc-ons don't have turn buckles , never saw the need on a loc-on. My ladder stands all have turn buckles.

Steel... Just oil em in the off season... I usually reset my stands ever so often so they don't grow into the tree especially if it's a hot tree...I just take oil with me when I do this.....

You can get them either steel or aluminum. Be sure at the start of the season you check them to make sure the tree hasn't grown to the point of breaking them. Loosen them occasionally to prevent them breaking.

Well i don't have many so I'll move em if it's not a hot tree. I have always just used two ratchet straps. Never have used a chain but as I'm getting older I'm trying to be smarter, don't want to fall. Im gonna try the chains. I like the turn buckle idea because I don't know if I could get it tight enough another way

I have one stand with a chain. I've thought about replacing all the straps with chains on my other ones. I pull my stands after season every year. It's a lot of work putting them up every year. I currently have 13. Y'all leave yours up all year?

No I take them down. I used two straps from Home Depot that are 2500 breaking strength with a 833 lbs working load. Then I put a chain around the top too. I hope they don't go anywhere

Straps are the reason I have life lines on all my stands now.
