Any of y'all had issues with mold in your smokers? I apparently didn't clean mine well enough. After it was delivered to my house (moved from Bama to Colorado) after sitting in a warehouse for a month, I found it full of mold.

My research so far points to using hit to neutralize the mold. Then I can wipe it out with <10% bleach solution or simple green. I'm not sold on the way ahead yet. Figured I'd check with the knowledge base here first.

Just plug it up about 3-4 hours then wipe it out. Wash the lava rocks.

Thanks. I don't have lava rocks. The interior is just a metal box, essentially.

Seems like if you turned it on its highest setting for a while, it would kill anything living.

Did that first off. Went in and scrubbed everything down really well and even used some simple green.

Got it fired up again to dry it out and hopefully put a bit of the seasoning back in it (that was sad to see the flavor leaving, lol).

Now the big question - what to smoke first? What type of meat goes well with mold and simple green? I'm thinking the apple smoke will pair well with them.

I had the same thing happen before, did the same thing you're doing. Burn it off, clean it, burn it again, and re-season...worked like a charm!
