Do to others as you would want them to do to you.

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.

There are a lot of people in jail for rape that adhered to that philosophy.

That's actually the golden rule. I don't know if there is a book definition of it but I interpret it as being a good sport. Winning well, and losing well, and playing the game by the rules. No cheating, whining, or boasting basically.

Acting like you know how to enjoy a win, but remembering what it feels like to be on the losing side of the coin as well. Be gracious whether you are accepting the win or the loss.

Rules for hunting are kinda like rules for war. We have the ability to utterly annihilate Muslim countries from the planet. Literally, in minutes, from the safety of the other side of the planet, we could leave a blackened, desolate landmass for the rest of earthly time. But in the name of "sportsmanship" we have to send our men by foot into hostile places where the enemy has the advantage. We have to play by limiting rules. Yet the object of war is to "kill people and destroy things."
It's a lot like that in hunting. The end goal of hunting is actually killing. It's not as fun persay, but the purpose is killing. Be it not for rules of sportsmanship, we could easily kill deer at will. Sportsmanship is frankly just to give the deer a reasonable fighting chance.

I kid, I kid. Well, sorta...

When something is done in a sportsmanlike manner it is done within the confines of being Just, Right, Noble, Virtuous, Honorable and Good.

Please tell me you didn't mean to post that or that you're kidding! That sound's like something some ignorant liberal college student would say.

I watched a show the other night. The show host prefaced the show by stating that the place he was hunting was high fence. The show host the assured the viewing audience that it was still going to be tough to kill a deer. Well his wife killed an enormous buck close to 200 inches. This is more about fair chase than sportsmanlike which I believe is to be gracious in victory as well as defeat. Baiting is another topic.
