Anything but a Chevy, ford would be first for me in a gasser. Toyota is a fine truck also. Chevys dependability is nothing anymore. This freight train is going bridge jumping. What dependability issues is Chevy having?

I've got friends that have drove Toyotas for many hundred thousands of carefree miles, but that hasn't been my experience. My third Toyota, an Avalon, will be my last. My daily driver is an '04 Chevy Cavalier with a 165K on it and I've put more in the Avalon in the last year than the Chevy. A lot more!

We have a shop and they are the most common we see with engine work, and fuel pumps are a common. They're not all major repairs, but rather things that just continuously pile on top of each other. Just my .02. Anything but a Chevy, ford would be first for me in a gasser. Toyota is a fine truck also. Chevys dependability is nothing anymore. This freight train is going bridge jumping. That's interesting Cole. I too hope to be shopping for a newer, not new, truck after the first of the year and Chevy/GMC is high on my want list. My neighbor just bought a '10 F-150 but based on my last Ford with the 3 valve spark plug issues I swore to never own another Ford product.

No Dodge. Fiat makes them. No Chevy. Too many transmission, engine and sensor issues. Google it.
If not a Toyota I'd definitely say Ford. Like Rebel said though, I don't think your gonna buy a full size 4x4 for 33k. A Tacoma 4x4 Double cab can be bought close to that price.

I want: 4x4 (only need once or twice a year, but when you need it you need it) 4 door crew cab AC, Heat, Radio other than that I don't give a crap
My current truck (in the effin shop) is a 4x4 Ford XL. Other than being in the shop, it is fine.
What would you buy? Another F150 XL Chevy Dodge (gas or diesel?)
They are all going to run ~#33k-ish
What year and How many miles on the current truck? What kind of issues is it giving? Is it paid for?
The fool tells me his reasons; the wise man persuades me with my own.

Even my brother who is a die hard Chevy guy(and runs a shop) will admit the Chevys of the last 10 years have a bunch of issues. He did tell me a couple weeks back that one of the Ford engines had several problems while the other was good. I drive a car and have an old f250 I bought to hunt out of but would have bought an old Chevy if I'd found one. Other than Toyota I don't have any real brand loyalty.

I've always drove chevrolets. I've never had many problems out of mine. If you treat me right and take care of them they will return the favor. And..... Ford sucks!

I too have a large customer base that are both mechanic shops and used car dealers. Ford versus Chevy from 03-07 ford loses hands down no contest.

My Tacoma brand new back in 05 was 34,000. I looked at some new double cab Chevys. They like 45-60,000.

I'll never buy a new truck. Too d@mn expensive. I bought a 04 Sierra 2500 crew 4wd for $8k. I put about $4K in it. I've rebuilt the front end, transmission (shop built), new tires, rear end work, all new brakes/rotors/pads, rebuilt driveshaft..little motor work on things that needed replacing (prior owner didn't know what maintenance was).. It has a few scrapes/marks, but it runs as good as new.

Used Tacoma double cab 4x4 longbed
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

You guys have convinced me that it I am going to eff up no matter what I pick. haha
nah just stay away from a 2003-2007 ford truck and you will be fine. the newer ford f-150 with the 5.0 is also a good motor. as for a Silverado, the 07-10 have oil consumption issues that is an easy fix. I don1t much about a half ton dodge except the newer ones look good and get good fuel mileage. my only complaint about a Toyota is ride comfort. I don't care to rub elbows and shoulders with a guy and that will happen in a Tacoma. tru-talker drives a Nissan, that's reason enough to run from those.

You might be better off finding you a nice car. Toyota Camry is about $18k brand new. Then find you a 4x4 that you can get dirty and don't mind taking it in the woods. You'll come in way less than $30k

If not a Toyota I'd definitely say Ford. Like Rebel said though, I don't think your gonna buy a full size 4x4 for 33k. A Tacoma 4x4 Double cab can be bought close to that price.
Toyota Tacoma will be "all new" for 2016. Should be on lots by the end of this month. Price will be all new too. I bet for the next 6 months you can buy a new full size truck cheaper.

Ford, i just bought a 14 f 150 in feb, and pulled a 7500# camper all over the rocky mountains this summer and the truck handled it perfectly, although it was wound a little tight pushing some hills around denver. Plenty of room and a whole lot better fuel mileage than a yota.

What chance GM had of getting me back after the bailout was lost forever with their "The American Family is changing" ad campaign from the last Olympics. This is the commercials that showed 15 or so "families" with several of the parents being the same sex. x2. I emailed them and let them know of my disapproval of their commercials and they responded by saying they represent all people, so if and when i see someone sharing the gospel of Jesus on a tailgate in a commercial, then perhaps i may once again consider buying a gm ...but i doubt that we will ever see that.

We have a shop and they are the most common we see with engine work, and fuel pumps are a common. I own a 2001 Chevy Z71 (original owner). Had to replace the fuel pump in it as well. Was told not to run it with less than a 1/4 tank of gas. It is the gas that cools the pump. Have close to 70k on this fuel pump now.

Well, I have a 2005 4x4 Silverado 1500 that just turned 277K. Drive it every day to work 90 miles. Just last week I had to put a water pump and belts on it. Other than that, I have put brakes on it and changed the oil and bought 3 sets of tires for her. That's the only bolts that have been turned on it since it was new. So I'd say if it dies today, i've gotten well worth my money out of it.
Hope it don't, the price of a new like it is unbelievable. Even the Colorado's are going from $30-40K new.

I have an 04 1500 Z71 Ext. cab that just hit 211K. I've been looking at a truck too so I'm digging this thread. My top dollar is gonna be 14K at most so I've been looking in the 07-08 range. Ain't had a lot of luck yet. I'm not in a bind so if I can't hit the number, I'll just keep on driving the one I got.

Dr. B I look at trucks a lot simply because I like trucks. At $14,000 I think the only thing you will find is the same thing you have with less miles. Not saying that's a bad thing

I've come across some decent deals but too late on the draw. Nothing under 100k miles. My days of buying a truck with less than 100k are most likely gone. And I can live with that. Dr. B

Low miles before options. Don't need extra stuff that will require maintenance. Extended cab, 4x4....

Just bought a 2015 4x4 off road package 4 door Tacoma 3 months ago. Paid $29,700.00 Base Tundra $39,00.00 and only 12-14 mpg Fords 4x4 4 door F150 Base model 2015 $46,000.00 Got salesman down to 39,000.00 a 2014 year model, 4x4 4 door F150 Off Road with a V6. Oddly enough 33K was also my budget. You won't find a full size truck for that.
