Full of questions this season. I have pictures of deer in a head of woods with no acorns. Now the head of woods is a peninsula in a soybean field. Then I have property where the acorns seem to be forming and not as many pics. DO I plan in 48 days to set the acorns or where I get the most pics? Am I making a mountain out of mole hill? Wanting success too much? Put ladder or loc-on now or wait until national planting day(labor day) to hang stands? H E L P?

There are two seasons: hunting season and getting ready for hunting season.

I'd set up where you find sign closer to season, they might start to change patterns when the hard antlers form and the acorns start dropping.

If the peninsula connects with a larger block of timber then I would place a set near there. If there are also acorns in that area then better still. Keep in mind that when they harvest the beans, there will still be beans on the ground. You can catch them coming off these fields early in the morning or entering late in the afternoon.

Hang 2 sets if you have them, then hunt the one with the best wind.

There are no rainy days...

When acorns start dropping you can bet your setup they'll change their pattern.

I'd be around the nearest acorns or persimmons (if you have any)

Figuring out the setup one of coolest parts of hunting. Blood trailing and making pics way cool too.

If there are acorns they will come, pick white oaks. Shoot true with a slick trick and youll hear or see the deer crash.

Gun or bow? What kind of acorns? Are the beans going to be there opening day? Answer those and I can give my opinion.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Bow is the only way to go! Not sure they will be up opening day. I am thinking that beans are usually harvested the same time as cotton(mid-sept). White oak, pin oak(?), and (i think) chesnut oak are the three prominent Quercus'(haha).

Perch I will be slinging Exodus broads. Love the trail or lack there of! Found a white oak ridge yesterday that may solve my question at hand. Now loc-on or climber, that is the question?

I have a similar issue and had it last year. I have a ladder stand in a bottom and a good tree to climb in a section of oaks. I pulled cameras a week before season and sat in the oaks due to getting more pictures from that camera that week. It worked out I stuck a doe and a 8 point opening morning. My opinion is it's too early to make the decision. One other thing I prefer my climber for opening morning it's more comfortable then the ladder!

Be careful about walking it out every few days messing with cameras and looking for sign. You'll be certain to ruin a great spot by opening day doing this. Pick a few locations with good acorns, go hang a few stands now and don't go back until opening day. Use a pair of binoculars to help find which trees have acorns.

I was kind of thinking it was to early to put a stand up. I am waiting for a rainy day to go hang my stand for opening day. But I like to get others thoughts to help me see if I am on the right path, especially on new land. Scouted or previously hunted land brings a different approach for me.

Love being in the woods on rainy days I try to check cameras during the rain or just before the rain starts. The ladder stand I put up is a long walk in and it's all uphill coming out so that helped make the decision of stand placement easier. I have hang ons and ladder stands in the bottom and use my climber on the top side. One of those work smarter not harder things for me.

I always try to find the white oaks closest to the bedding areas, or thickest areas. Just my method.
