I've never understood the desire to shoot a lion. I'm not at all opposed to somebody else doing it. To each his own.
When I went on a jeep Safari in Kenya, you could pretty much drive right up to them. You can drive right up to deer at Guntersville State Park too, do you hunt deer???? They will walk right up to you in Liberty Park too. My understanding is that if you know the right people you can hunt there. It's even been rumored you can pay to hunt the surrounding areas. I used to hunt there, with a written permit from the owner, Drummond. I have leased land adjoining Liberty Park for hunting. I have had a written permit from other adjoining landowners, US Steel, and have hunted small tracts within Liberty Park the individuals own. no rumor there.....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I had some squirrels eat out of my hand yesterday. Can't understand why anybody would hunt them? Man it is amazing what people say on a hunting website sometimes. As I clearly stated, I have no problem with it, just zero allure for me to shoot a lion.

Look folks, this is the world we live in whether you like it disagree with it or not and guess what, we hunters are WAY outnumbered by the general public. Guess who LETS us hunt, hmmmm? So far we have been barely able to keep the laws in our favor to hunt. BUT, the public WILL NOT STAND for baiting innocent animals in to be slaughtered! ESPECIALLY an enclosed HIGH FENCE area (not the case here, but). IF the national media ever makes a concerted effort to sway the general population against hunting, WE ARE SCREWED!!!!! So far, the public has accepted sportsmanship and fair chase hunting, barely. Just remember that the next time you make the argument for baiting or hunting in an enclosed high fence operation. Don't hate on me, I'm just the messenger.

IF the dead could could talk, I'll bet there are several thousand black Africans that will argue that lions aren't innocent.....

It seems that some of you think that the $50k he spent is an outlandish number to spend on a lion hunt.
Here's the normal break down: Most lion hunts in Zim are a 21 day hunt @ $1250 +/- per day. (This is imposed by the government, not the outfitter. Out of the $26,250 +/- the PH might get $5000 or so. Then the trophy fee on the male lion he kills (depending on the concession) will range from $15,000 - $25,000. The concession (tribal land) gets 75% of this fee. In total, the PH will make $7500 +/- out of the total of $50,000 the hunter spent.
The PH will also make a % of each of the other trophies and bait animals that the hunter kills. On a 21-day lion hunt, you'd need 3-5 500-800lb bait animals. Those would cost anywhere from $800-1500 each.
Granted $50,000 is a pile of cash to spend for some of us, to others it's not much at all. It's no different than a guy on here hunting public land compared to the guy that spends $3000 on club dues in a year. The public land guy just can't believe anyone would/could spend $3000+ per year for club dues when you can hunt public ground for free.

Damn, I'm a long way from a lion hunting trip I think I'm going to shot either a blank panther or a mountain lion on our place in south Montgomery county this hunting season. It costed to much to go to Africa. You can come hunt with me hawgwild.

An online petition to President Obama on Change.org demanded "justice for Cecil" and for the creation of new laws protecting big game from being hunted outside of the U.S. and brought back. Over 7,200 supporters signed the petition as of Wednesday morning.

People are stupid. A woman can feel a baby kick or move, decide to have it sliced up and suctioned out of her body, and that's fine with some people. A guy shoots a lion and the entire friggin' world thinks he should be hung, hunting should cease and animals are more important than humans.
