It is probably best that he not return to Zimbabwe anytime soon also. Ever see the 60's movie "The Naked Prey" with Cornel Wilde?

I read he shot the lion with a bow and arrow but at night with a spotlight. No permit. I feel no sympathy for the dentist.

I'm sitting in the hotel lobby this morning eating breakfast and they have the tv on ABC morning show. Unbelievable ! These bunch of liberal jackasses are reporting on this like a human was murdered. You think they showed this much outrage over plan parenthood doctors bragging about how many abortions they done that day and what the going rate is for a babies arm and liver! Hell no!

Thanks, I didn't recall reading it was a felony but that would fit with the $1000 fine.

Learn a lesson from his mistake, anytime you pay for somebody to take you hunting in a place you're unfamiliar with you better do your homework. The "ignorance" card only gets you so far. And ask questions when something doesn't seem legit. When they tied a dead animal drag to the back of the truck to lure him to a different place to kill him I'd have started asking questions. And he very well could have asked those questions, I'm not saying he didn't. I could have just been the day all his bad luck chips got cashed in at once.

Trying to destroy the gps collar is another dead giveaway that you're screwed.

It'd be nice if there was this much public outrage over ISIS beheading people and Planned Parenthood sorting through aborted fetuses to harvest organs to sell.

I wonder how many veterans or active duty servicemen have died during the time this has dominated the news.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I'm going to assume that you have never been to Africa hunting. You are completely at the mercy of the Outfitter and PH to ensure that all is legal. And every country is different. Landlines are usually NOT marked, no way to know if you are one legal land or in a park, or on someone else.

Dragging dead game to lay a scent trail is normal practice when hunting lion or leopard.

an personally ,given his history, I doubt that he asked any questions and knew full well the hunt was illegal. He is in a world of deep chitt with the USFW boys, prolly facing multiple Lacy Act violations here in US.

I really doubt he will actually face any charges IN Zimbabwe. I sure as hell wouldn't go back on my own to face charges there.

anybody with ANY common sense would not of shot THAT lion, even if it was legal, on quota, legal land, et all. Dumbass greedy move and it will cost him, the PH, the landowner, and all of us that hunt anywhere. The antis will use this to further their anti-hunting agenda, esp lion hunting.

First:
I don't believe a single word of anything written in the "news" about hunting. It is ALWAYS slanted against hunters and hunting.

No, I've never been hunting in Africa. And the fact that you're completely at the mercy of the outfitter and PH is why I'd be as educated as possible before I go (however much or little that might be) and ask more questions when I got there. The piece I read mentioned that they used the drag to lure him off of the park so that they could kill him. He may or may not have known where they were luring him from. But like you, it all sounds sketchy at best.

Have you ever hunted in Africa? If so, how did/would you make sure that you didn't get involved in a similar situation? He probably thought that by dropping $50k he was with a reputable outfitter.

The fact that that first offense with the bear was a felony is the ridiculous part. Laws have gotten so screwed up in this country.

I've never understood the desire to shoot a lion. I'm not at all opposed to somebody else doing it. To each his own.

When I went on a jeep Safari in Kenya, you could pretty much drive right up to them.

Flyway, yes I have hunted Africa, in fact in Zimbabwe. I went with an outfit that came highly recommended by others that had been with them. You do your homework by checking past performance, both in ethics and in game taken.

Bronkhurst, the PH, has been involved on the edge of stuff in the past. And the land they hunted is listed as seized land, something you can check on.

They will walk right up to you in Liberty Park too. My understanding is that if you know the right people you can hunt there. It's even been rumored you can pay to hunt the surrounding areas.

I had some squirrels eat out of my hand yesterday. Can't understand why anybody would hunt them? Man it is amazing what people say on a hunting website sometimes.
