Do you or your club shoot does on food plots? Why or why not? Explain your answer.

Yes. It has made little to no difference on seeing deer in them. That's the easiest way to kill the does you need to kill. Let the flame throwing begin.

Depends on the plot location , and they are shot early, well before rut, period. And never hammered hard in one location.

Yes we do. We have a 2 doe limit per person that the club has in place,but most of our guys don't care to shoot does. Kids can shoot anytime and the adults usually get thier does within the first couple weeks of the season(the ones that will shoot them). I don't hunt plots and usually kill 1 doe. I don't see where it bothers the deer to much on the plots.

Call me out, if you want. My neighbor in Texas has a video where he shot a doe during rut. A buck came out and tried to breed her. I couldn't call BS because the proof was in the picture (video).

Like 2dogs, we generally kill them as early as possible and only 1-2 per plot. Then they get low pressure and we have no problem killing mature bucks on plots.

And my dad had this happen a couple years ago after 2 does had already been shot out of the field. Heard grunting coming out of the woods and an 8pt came charging right out to it, but was shot before he could finish his business. I've also shot a buck and have another buck come by and try to fight it. This also goes for shooting yotes seen lots of deer after shooting yotes.

Pressure is a funny thing it effects every deer and every deer herd differently. You can't make generalization for everyone different situations.

We have a no doe and this year no hog rule for green fields . I don't know , everyone has opinions but you are almost always goingbtonsee 4-5 deer and 75% of the time a racked buck , by no means do I mean a mature deer everytime

we have a two doe limit per member and we do shoot does in the plots, however you can't shoot one in a food plot after Jan 10th.

I for one do not shoot does in food plots because quite frankly all I have to do is go walk down in the woods some where on my place and I'll see a doe. the only reason I set a date that you cant shoot them in the fields after is just to simply keep the fields quiet for a few weeks before the rut kicks in. My members generally tend to pick spots that are out of the way to whack their nannies and it's helped us out a lot. The past two years are the only two years we have ever seen bucks in food plots and we seem to think its because they are kept quite the majority of the season

We have 15 plots that we allow doe killing. When 2 does are killed the plot becomes buck only. They learn quickly. We have 5 plots that we haven't killed a doe on in years and the hunting is like night and day. Seeing deer is all about pressure.

We don't shoot does on the plots. It was a group decision. The first couple years after we started the hunting club we shot does on food plots for the first few weeks of the season and then stopped. We wanted to whack all the does that we were going to harvest for the season right up front and then let things quiet down for awhile before the rut came. The only problem though was that the plots were never the same after that for the rest of the season. We had one big field where it wasn�t all that uncommon to see 15-20+ deer in an evening sit. You could just about count on seeing 8-10 on any given evening. That chit never happened again after we started laying a few of �em down. Those type sightings did not return until the following season. The deer use on the plots would go just about completely nocturnal. We would be lucky to see 2-3 in an evening with many evenings seeing nothing.... and those we did see would mostly be fawns and yearlings. I see the same thing here at home as well. You whack a deer out here in front of the rest of �em and they quickly change their usage of my plot to strictly at night.

You don't have to shoot them to run them off. Not knowing how to hunt plots and not setting them up right is most folks problem. Killing bucks on plots can be done if you leave them alone enough and only hunt when everything is right.

Shoot the first one in the field. Then the others don't get to watch.

We don't shoot them on our plots. Our experience has been similar to CNC's. I wish we had the dumb deer some of y'all have or the piss poor habitat so the had to come to a plot to eat

I've been wanting to say this, and I'll go ahead. Hunting plots twice a week and NOT shooting anything has more impact on deer using the plots in day light than hunting them 3 times a season and killing a deer every single time.

Mind you, that's been my experience. Whether I kill anything or not, my deer sightings decrease nearly every visit to a stand. Pressure ain't about gun fire. It's about human presence.

We allow doe killing on half the plots, the other half is buck only.

It strikes a good balance between the more serious buck hunters and the more casual club members IMO.

Another thing that was mentioned above is setup. Most of our plots are pretty large and have the shooting houses setup on the south side with entrance/exit sneak trails cut to them. This is important.
