Belgium auto-5 12 ga that was my granddad's and has been shot a million times. The gun functions perfectly, but it gets a spotty light coat of rust if it rains in the neighboring county. Not sure if I should reblue so that my grandkids can one day use it. I've been lightly coating with oil from time to time. I could care less if a new finish increases or decreases the value. Honestly, I like having the wear and tear from the history behind the gun...but don't like rust. Thoughts?

I would get it cerakoted.

I wouldn't ruin a keepsake with Cerakote or the like. I have some sentimental guns with bluing that had faded and even rust. I have considered having them redone but never done it. It doesn't seem right to erase history.

I have a old mossburg that does the same thing near the end of the barrel. It's also been passed down through the family. I'm planning to get it cerakoted as close to the original finish as possible. It has a wooden stock that I plan on adding another coat of clear coat to so we can keep the "history marks" just the way they are. I have been considering this for the past year and cole baker in huntsville said he can do the work without drastically changing the look of the gun.

The secret to a long marriage is to keep on dating, just as you did before marriage. We have "date night" once a week.
Hers is Saturday, mine is Thursday.

The only time a married woman gives those is if your not married to them!

I would send it to browning and let them rework it

I like the character of an old gun - there are a lot of memories in rust and dings. However, if you want to refinish/restore it for a keepsake - pay the money for rebluing and woodwork.

X2 it could use bluing but that would take all the history out out of IMO

I love the rut. The woods are like a bunch of roided up meatheads fighting over a girl.

Got my Dad's A5 That he bought in 1939, It's been well used Duck and deer hunting. No way I would alter it in anyway, looks like the same day he gave it to me.
