Ever feel like something needs to be done with the way our judicial system is working, running and ruling? If so, then you might want to tune in tonight for a special talk by a guy named Michael Harris. He is a constitutional lawyer, traditional conservative, and dedicated to righting wrongs. in 2014, a group of constitutional experts, lawyers, professors, policy makers got together at the Jefferson Hotel to discuss what needed to be done to stop the train wreck in DC. Fitting location since Thomas Jefferson was a big fan of Article V for these specific reasons and the hotel is just 4 blocks from the White House. They fond consensus in Article V....Convention of States. From that meeting they drafted the "Jefferson Statement" Using the constitution to save the constitution approach. This the the way our founders set it up to reign in federal government overreach--through a convention of all the independent states to propose constitutional amendment changes. If Congress will not do what is needed in their halls, we can bypass them as the federal republic intended. The Jefferson Statement:
The Constitution’s Framers foresaw a day when the federal government would exceed and abuse its enumerated powers, thus placing our liberty at risk. George Mason was instrumental in fashioning a mechanism by which "we the people" could defend our freedom—the ultimate check on federal power contained in Article V of the Constitution.
Article V provides the states with the opportunity to propose constitutional amendments through a process called a Convention of States. This process is controlled by the states from beginning to end on all substantive matters.
A Convention of States is convened when 34 state legislatures pass resolutions (applications) on an agreed topic or set of topics. The Convention is limited to considering amendments on these specified topics.
While some have expressed fears that a Convention of States might be misused or improperly controlled by Congress, it is our considered judgment that the checks and balances in the Constitution are more than sufficient to ensure the integrity of the process.
The Convention of States mechanism is safe, and it is the only constitutionally effective means available to do what is so essential for our nation—restoring robust federalism with genuine checks on the power of the federal government.
We share the Founders’ conviction that proper decision-making structures are essential to preserve liberty. We believe that the problems facing our nation require several structural limitations on the exercise of federal power. While fiscal restraints are essential, we believe the most effective course is to pursue reasonable limitations, fully in line with the vision of our Founders, on the federal government.
Accordingly, I endorse the Convention of States Project, which calls for an Article V Convention for "the sole purpose of proposing amendments that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress."
To read more and to see who was agreed to this Statement, mash here: http://www.conventionofstates.com/the_jefferson_statement US Constitution--Article V The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate. On Aldeer it has been discussed and kicked around about what can a person really do, short of taking up arms, that will make any real difference. Rally, march, write letters, vote, etc... Well here is something in this Convention of States you can research and then get behind if it fits your criteria. Take a look at link below, and explore what they are talking about. Tune in tonight for a broadcast, sign a petition, volunteer, whatever... http://www.conventionofstates.com/stop_dc_michael_farris_to_host_live_broadcast Just passing along info for my brothers to stay informed and get involved.

Good post. This needs to be done on the following subjects:
1. Require balanced budget except in case of Congressionally declared war on foreign power.
2. Make clear Commerce Clause only applies to actual interstate commerce - expressly rejecting the New Deal era "affectation" and "cumulative effects" doctrines made up by the SCOTUS.
3. Make clear that under Article 6 that treaties cannot and do not nullify any aspect of the Constitution or any aspects of individual State sovereignty.
4. Make clear Second Amendment is an individual right (right now it is a 5-4 situation at SCOTUS).
5. Mandate that federal government can never spend more than 15% of GDP. Maybe only 10%.
6. Make clear that the Necessary and Proper Clause and the General Welfare preamble are NOT independent sources of power delegated by the States to the Federal Govt. (like the Founding Fathers said back then).
7. Amend First Amendment to:
a. outlaw Islam.
b. outlaw pornography.
c. outlaw promotion of Nazism , Communism, Global Government.
d. outlaw the promotion of homosexuality/lesbianism/transgenderism/polygamy/pedophilia and incest.
e. Make clear that the word "religion" in First Am. only refers to the Christian religion and that America is founded on Christian principles and that it is no violation of First Am. for government and government officials and employees to acknowledge the Biblical God/Christ and to open public meetings with Christian prayer.
8. An Amendment to MANDATE strict original intent construction of the Constitution and FORBIDDING any "evolving living document" construction, or the application of any international law or any "evolving norms of international consensus" garbage.
9. Outlaw homosexual/lesbian/transgender marriage or polygamy or incestual marriage. Define marriage as only between one man and one woman.
10. Outlaw homosexual and lesbians or transgenders from adopting children.
11. Forbid immigration of Muslims into the U.S.
12. Require strict enforcement of immigration laws and provide for immediate impeachment of any president who fails to do so.
13. Provide the federal judges only serve 5 year terms and then have to receive a 3/4 vote of approval by Congress AND the State Legislatures to earn another 5 years. Mandate that any application of "evolving living document" crap to either Constitution or legislation is grounds for immediate impeachment.

Thanks straycat for sharing I love this country, to the very core of my being. But, we have allowed the vocal minority and liberal media to push their agenda on us to the point that to take a stand, could cause serious personal issues (financial, job, arrested, ...etc). I am a 51-yr old man that got to see some great things this country accomplished, but unfortunately my generation failed because of a shortage of backbone. In my entire life, I have never backed away from what I thought was right - regardless of the consequences. But in the last few years, I find myself being less willing to take a stand for what I know is right. Hopefully my son's generation or his children will do much better.

Another one:
Any city or State that does not participate in the enforcement of immigration laws shall have all federal monies cutoff.
