Deck boat:faster, better for tubes and skiing, rides good.
Pontoon: cheaper, smoother riding, slower, depending on motor good gas mileage.

Pontoons appear to be a pain the ass to load onto the trailer from what I see at the local ramp every weekend. I've spent time on both ( never owned ). I always prefer a deck boat over a pontoon.

Pontoon is the way to go IMO.. They aren't that hard to load IMO... Most people just don't know what in the hell they are doing... A winch on the trailer is designed for just that.. pulling it on the trailer.. IF you have someone in the truck, and someone in the boat, you can have it on the trailer in just a few minutes. Get a 4 stroke motor

The reason people have a hard time loading then is because they back the trailers to far into the water. They drift off to easy. Leave the bunks a little deeper than half way and they go straight on.

I've owned both and I would go back to the pontoon in a minute before the deck. I would also go used with a few cracks and scratches as long as the motor was solid. You will enjoy the used toon because you won't be worrying about scratching or denting a new boat. Rigged with enough horsepower the toon will do everything the deck can do, perhaps you won't get there as fast but who cares. Have you priced both yet? New deck will cost significantly more than the toon.

Told the Wife, if we retire on a lake, we're getting a pontoon.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Deck boat, hands down if you can afford it. Get a v8 with at least 200hp. Some of the base models come with 135 hp.

We had a Tahoe 22' saltwater edition 215. Guy had it before me had been out 30 miles deep sea fishing. Had 4 rod trolling set up. 50 gallon freshwater tank with sink, table, changing room. Wish I would have kept it but had 3 kids and didn't use it much. It would push it about 60. Was a bad boat. Seated 12 adults.

haleyville al,
Havent priced them yet. Were wanting something to tube and ski behind. But want more room than a ski boat. Been looking at the Lowe deck boat and their pontoons. I have ways told that a deck boat will better on gas. But have no experience with either one. I know they have changed since my grandfather had his pontoon. He couldn't pull a skier with his.

Pontoon = more walking around room w/90hp. 4 stroke you should be able to pull Charles Barkley around on a wake board.

I used to have a 20' aluminum deck boat, a Sea Nymph. Sure as hell wish I had it back! Plenty of room, you could fish, bowfish, ski and it would run about 50! Mine was about 8' wide.

When I bought my boat,I wanted something the 5 of us could enjoy but at the same time it would be a 2 man fishing boat about 80% of the time. I bought a big John boat,2072, with a 115 hp 4 stroke.

It isn't as good of a family boat as a toon but it's a better fishing boat.Make your choice based on what you will be doing the most in it.
