Don't even go there Phil. I've been a Bama fan all my life. Bo was the real deal. He was good enough to hand Bama their first loss in the Iron Bowl in a decade. That's a day I will always remember. Not for the ballgame, but because I killed my first deer, a 7pt.

If Bo was such a great runner, why didn't they have a better team while he was there? How many national championships did they win or play for while he was there? As others have already said, one man can't carry a team for an entire season. If AU had had a better team they would have won at least one or more NC's.

If Bo was such a great runner, why didn't they have a better team while he was there? How many national championships did they win or play for while he was there? Well I could make a strong case that they should have won the NC in 1983. They went 11-1 and played 8 teams that went to a bowl game that year. That may not seem impressive now when there are something like 39 bowl games out there but back in 1983 there was only about 16. So going to a bowl game really had meaning back then. They also played at least 4 teams ranked in the top 10. They were ranked 3rd going into post season and the number 1 and 2 teams both lost their bowl games. But that was back when winning the NC was basically a popularity contest that often left schools from less populated areas holding the s####y end of the stick. Ask the 1966 Alabama football team about that. As to who was better, it is pick your poison. They were both big, strong and fast. If you prefer the power at the line of scrimmage, the edge goes to Herschel. If you prefer the better break away speed, the edge goes to Bo.
Really can't say it any better than this.

As others have already said, one man can't carry a team for an entire season. Cam Newton says you're wrong. Cam had Nick Farly with him I beleive. Also had Gene Chizic who will go down as one of the best Auburn coaches when it is all said and done.

Also had Gene Chizic who will go down as one of the best Auburn coaches when it is all said and done. What is so funny he may very well go down in history as the last coach to win a National Championship at Auburn. That puts him at about the top of the list. I'll give him credit for hiring Malzahn and for letting Malzahn talk him into bringing Cam on board but that's about it.

Herschel and Bo. Tough call right there. Maybe Bo as just one of the freakishly great athletes ever. Herschel was in the same caliber but didn't show his talents in baseball. And for the record, I'm a Bammer. Whoever (Bear?) told Bo he would have to redshirt his freshman year made the biggest mistake ever. He went to AU because of that and made history. How great would he have looked in Crimson?!
