I shoot some out to 70 yards. The furthest I will take a shot with optimal conditions is 50 yards.

I dont practice any further than I will shoot in a normal situation, 50yds is my max. I find it useless to shoot any further than you would shoot a deer. I have killed several deer at 45-48yds, these shots were all ranged. Also I like to practice out of a stand this way you are practicing just like you will be hunting. Use your harness also, this way you can simulate the exact way you are hunting. Why do you find it useless to shoot further than you would if you were hunting? I've noticed a huge difference in my accuracy at hunting yardages, since I started shooting way out there. At 80 yds I can tell every time I do the most minute inconsistency. Every time I pull that arrow 6" it gives me something to work on . When is shoot at 40yds, that same in insistence might only change my impact by 1/2"

I like to practice out to 50ish when i can but don't see myself shooting past 30-35 (can't most of the places I hunt anyway).
Get consistent at 50 and 30 is a chip shot.

45 yards is my max. I'm always in the woods when I'm bow hunting, and I dont reckon there's too many shots where I'm at that are longer than 45 yards anyway.

Treat every shot the same. To think one in your mind is easier just because of the closer distance is hurting yourself.

I shoot out to 100 yds but wouldnt shoot a deer past 80yds. With my current arrow setup the broadhead starts taking over and stearing the arrow somewhere around 80 yds. Its hard to tell but the arrow hooks left in the last few yards in this video. Hits dead on at 80yds and dead on at 100yds with target tips. Practice at differing distances. I start at 25, move to 35, move to 45 and work back in on the same schedule. I have only killed one deer over 35 yards with my bow, the rest were all inside of 20 yards. Getting close is the name of the game in bow hunting and once inside of 20 yards, it is all on you. With today's bows, the sky is the limit on distance.
I killed over 100 deer with my bow and never shot over 220 fps and the longest shot was 36 yards. I also never practiced over 30 yards back then, but occasionally would stretch out the distances if there were a lot of folks shooting with me egging all of us on..
I can't stand a thief.

I practice 70 yard shots regularly and feel confident hitting an animal at that distance. my farthest confirmed kill is 61 yards with my alphamax I just sold. 400 grain arrow and a 100 grain rage 2 blade. complete pass through and it stuck in the ground on the other side. I will say that is the only animal I've shot at over 40 yards

I practice out to 40 occassionally. 99% of my practice time is spent at 15-20yds. My farthest kill last season was 25yds. My longest with the longbow.

when I shot a compound a lot I practiced at 50 yards 75% of the time, the rest at various yardages.
I have killed one buck at 49 yards, couple more at 35 yards, a couple at 25 yards and all rest under 20 yards. I like em at 10-12 yards myself.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I practice at 60. 40 is max rang to shot when hunting. Best way I found to find max hunt rang is shoot 10 arrows in to a pie plate at 10 yards. Than ten at 20 yard. keep moving back ten yards at a time, when you can not put ten arrows in the the plate you have your max range.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

At some point it becomes a game of weighing the variables between pulling the trigger and the arrow getting there

Like Fred, although I mostly prefer them inside of 20, I've killed several between 30-40, and my farthest at 42, BUT that 42 yard deer changed the way I think about shooting southern whitetails. I released my arrow on a broadside doe at 42 yards, not alert. She decided to take a step forward at the precise moment I released. I drove it through her hindquarters. She only went 25 yards and died, but I did not hit her where I wanted. 40 yards is a long way with a stick.

I practice out to 55 yards but wouldn't shoot past 45 at a deer.
