I'm thinking about selling my lifted golf cart and buying a ranger. What do I need to look for? Do they have power steering? Do I need 4x4? Engine size? Mostly used for hunting and riding around my 40. Thanks

Cons--big
I'd get a 4x4 for sure. I have an xp800 & it'll go anywhere it will fit.

The midsize 570 is the best deal for the money. I bought one a few weeks ago at Bama Buggies for $7900. I drove the power steering model and it didn't make that big of a difference on the midsize. It will flat out go! I love mine

Put some mud tars on it and you'll wish you had power steering. You are correct though. The 570 is the best bang for the buck.

I had one and sold it to go back to a 4 wheeler. I loved the comfort, toughness, speed, and ability to haul anything. The only draw back I found is that its big and impossible to get into the woods to pick up a deer. With that said I do miss the comforts of them.

I bought a used Yamaha Rhino from Big 1 motorsports, and love it. I love the fact that I can carry all my stuff with me at one time.

I have been seriously looking at one of those for a while.

I've got an older Ranger 500 that gets used/ridden everyday.

Yes you need 4x4, if you get 2wd you may as well have kept the golf cart. My 500 (which is now the 570)is plenty big enough for what I do. Only reason I can see needing a bigger one is if you are going to pull a disc or something heavy on a regular basis.

I personally would not get a mid-size since they only fit 2 adults, the full size will fit 3 "comfortably". If you don't need to fit 3 people and want to get into tight spots then the mid-size would be good.

Pros: Go anywhere within reason, haul a ton of stuff in the bed, pull trailers, plenty fast, very smooth ride, comfortable for 2/3 adults and gear

Cons: parts and accessories are expensive, labor at Polaris is even higher, get warm in the summer, it is a bitch to clean under skid plates etc.

Bought a used 800 and it was the best thing I have ever bought. I like it cause my kids can ride safely with me and I can haul all the gear or tools I need.

We have a 700 Ranger Crew.

Pros-

ride quality on any road is GREAT

ability to actually use it to do REAL WORK

carrying 4 large people and still having elbow room

having a roof to block the sun

easy to get in and out of for us older guys and no lifting leg up and over the 4 wheeler

no worry of will the battery charge get me back home

plenty of power to do all practical and expected things

Cons-

the noise of the 700 is loud. So loud I can't carry on a conversation going moderately fast.

won't go where a 4 wheeler will

takes more trailer and gas to haul it around

takes more space to store it

takes longer to clean it

requires constant pressure to accelerator and brake going down hill with factory clutch to keep clutch from free wheeling

gets hot over motor in back seat during summer

Ours is a 2007 and I understand the later models are supposed to be quieter. The loudness of the motor is the biggest and only draw back to me.

If you want one to work with, it is a no brainer- get one!!

I'm sure there is more I am forgetting to add.

God Bless,
David B.

If you don't care about going neck breaking fast I'd look hard at kubotas rtv x series. It'll do more "work" even though the Polaris is rated higher, the hydrostatic transmission solves to trouble of going down hills with the engine braking, it won't require as many repairs and will hold up better in the long run, but it won't go over 30 is the only downside. It's also heavy but thats the nature of the rtv being built more like a small tractor.

I've had a bunch and went back to ATV for agility. It'll just go where the side x sides can't.

central ala,
I just bought a Polaris 570 for a second UTV. I also have two 4 wheelers. All are used for work. ATV's have a place as well as the UTV's. All depends on what you plan to use it for.

I bought the 900 4x4 from Motorsports Super Store in Hamilton and we love ours about the only con to me is all the accessories you could spend money on LOL.
It was great to have back during the snow we had a ball on it and the power steering is great .

We have an 800 my uncle bought used. I thought the guy he got it from had wore it out. We have tried to kill that thing and can't. He treats it like a rented mule. I've been really impressed with it. I want a 570 and don't even need one.
It has the power steering but I've driven it when it was broke. At any kind of speed I like it better without but it's nice when you are just poking around going slow.

The only down side is that they are a little heavy if running in flooded fields (i.e. duck hunting).

You'll need a body and suspension lift for such uses. Anything over 2" you'll probably want to upgrade the axles.

When my honda rincon dies, there will be a full-size in my shop. Thats my way of saying the good out-weighs the bad.
