I'm wanting to build a pole barn. Thinking 30x40. Looking for some advice, materials connections, ect. I plan to build it myself.

central ala,
I have built a couple for myself. If the trusses are in 2 pieces before you do ANYTHING put them together. Measure the distance where they sit on the poles to make sure you dig the holes the right width. If its 1 piece, do the same except for the putting together. A tractor with a FEL and hay spear to pick up the trusses and hold them in place while connecting them to the poles is a big help. If you build it in the spring time, pollen can make the metal roof slicker than ice.

Contact builders firstsource in Shelby Alabama. They manufacture wood and steel trusses. Give them dimensions and roof pitch over the phone and they can get you am estimate. They will supply you with stamped drawings and connections and the truss hangers.

Question about stamped drawings.......... of a feller is building out in the country where no inspection is required why would he want 'stamped' drawings? What am I missing?

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

In the ad I posted, is that the price for them to build the building? Am I reading that right?

If that dude can build it for that, and it'll stay standing for a few years, I'd jump all over that! That's a real low end price!

Got my trusses from Addison Steel Truss. As someone mentioned, a tractor with a 3pt auger and front end loader with hay work will come in handy. Three people will make the install pretty quick. the biggest pain becomes putting all of the screws in roof metal...

That 29 gauge metal is thin, thin.

I would make the following changes:

-26ga tin
-16' 6x6" post to give you more eave height
-Go from 5' center to 8' centers on the post

You wont be able to drive anything between post with a 5' center

Its better to call the plants and get a bid cause A and A is a contractor that gets his trusses through the plants and gets a commission for a sale.

Cecil Pigg Truss would do a 30x40X14 wood truss, painted metal 2x6 lathe and 6x6 post for $5760. A 40x40 would cost about the same
