^^^ this!!! the nurse will tell you "don't get behind on your pain killers, even if the pain isn't too bad." DON'T!!! you will regret it and it is hard to wrangle it back under control once at that point. ice is your best friend, as well as a recliner (spent first month sleeping in mine). slap-bankhardt procedure on mine, so immobile time was longer, friends that had only rotator cuff were working on mobility if not the next day, then two days out. i was on the table when hurricane ivan blew through Columbus, ms (early sept) and cleared to shoot a shotgun on dec 19.

Don't let these weenies on here scare you. I tore mine late July of 2013. Tore the Subscapularis Tendon and Suprapinatus Tendon in mine. Also fractured the Humeral Tuberosity. Went and saw Dr. Jeffery Davis at St. Vincent. He's been with Dr. Andrews since 1995. I recommend seeing him. He sliced open the front of my shoulder (3 inches) and went in and repaired the Subscapularis Tendon. He repaired the other with a scope. The fracture didn't displace, so no plate was necessary. I start PT immediately. Three sessions a week. The first two or three were rough because all they did was stretch my shoulder. After that, the therapy actually made it feel better. I did this 8 weeks. 10 weeks after my surgery, I killed a doe with my bow!! THIS IS MY SHOOTING SHOULDER AND IT HANDLES THE 3.5 INCH NITROS JUST FINE!!

If you have not tried PT you owe it to yourself to try that first. It was all I needed to fix mine a couple of years ago right prior to my 60th birthday.

Who all has had it done and what kind of recovery time am I looking at? This sucker hurts and it's not getting any better. It's been 2-3 months and it's not healing on its own. Have you been to a Dr. yet? That sounds like mine was and I would have sworn I tore the rotator playing softball. I even remember the play in which it started hurting. After awhile it started hurting when I drew my bow so I finally went to a good ortho and an MRI. He diagnosed me with an impingement which is still a surgical fix, but much better than rotator repairs. If you haven't been diagnosed yet, that might be what you're looking at.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

July 9th will be a year from my repair. Had rotator and labrum done. I started PT the next day. I pushed myself and the patience of my therapist but was able to bow hunt the last week of October. I've heard it's the worst surgery to recover from, pain wise, but I'd say pain is relative. I NEEDED the meds for the first 48-72hrs but went without as best I could after that. Looking back, I made the right decision. Dr Adkinson at St V did mine. Very pleased with the results.

Mine was a torn rotator cuff and a large spur that had to be removed. I drew my bow 8 days after surgery to impress my nephews. That's when the pain started. Do the PT. I was throwing BP to our high school baseball team in January about 4 months after my surgery.

I still do some therapy and had my surgery 3 years ago. It ain't what some folks make it out to be (real bad). Had large bone spur, torn rotator, torn labrum, split in deltoid, torn bicep, and displaced scapula. Take that medicine the first few days, though. The Hughston Clinic did mine, Dr. Gerringer. I highly recommend him.

I've had both left and right rotator cuff tears repaired, been 6-7 years since the last was done and now I'm fine. It takes about 6 months to get back to normal if you don't consider normal to be bench pressing 2X per week ... Takes a few years for that.

It depends on a lot of things. How bad is injury? How much does the surgeon have to repair, overall patient health and condition. My experience with family members and patients who've had it is that FULL recovery can take up to a year. Most are doing pretty good by 6 months. All say the first couple of months of PT are hell.

We will find out what it is Friday at 9:30. Hoping I just pulled something and it doesn't require surgery because if it does I will procrastinate until it is about to fall off and then have it done.

I had it done. Recovery is extremely rough. Total recovery with PT around 3-4 mos. you'll feel better at around 2-3 weeks. Mine did anyway. The damn PT is rough to say the least. Had mine done and agree with this 100%.

MRI scheduled for Tuesday with dye in my shoulder. He said it's not a rotator and thinks it's a torn labrum (sp). Says depending on what the Mri shows that a steroid shot and therapy may be an option. If not its orthoscopic and lots of fun stuff after that I'm sure.

Good luck I have an appt. Tuesday as well. I feel like I took a muzzy through the shoulder! I think an MRI or CT will be in my future.
