I installed a Hypertech chip in my 93 z71 only sucky part was it recommended you run no less than 93 octane. This was like 14 years ago I'm not sure if they call for a higher octane these days?

I had one in my F350 when I was dumb and 22. It caused me more trouble then it was worth though. After "tuning" that thing up, I thought I had to romp it everywhere I went. I thought That truck was bad and I let everyone know it.  edit- I had an edge programmer, don't remember the details about it. You could tell a difference.

So tell me about superchips or other tuning chips. What do they do and are they worth it or all hype? If you're talking about for that Cummins that you have I would definitely do it. You are talking 2+mpg better and a heck of a lot more power. I had a 99 and a 01 5.9 cummins and had programmers on both of them and my work truck is an 02 Ford 7.3 with a programmer. Night and day difference with and without programmer. Not sure which is best brand but you definitely want one. I don't think they help much on a gas burner from the ones that my friends bought.

Gas burner...Not worth the $$$.
Diesel...Worth every dime !!!
If you want real results in the diesel, get a hand held.
To get the full gains you'll need to do a full delete kit also.
A lot of good info on the Cummins forums if that's what you have. I'm sure GM and Ford also have forums.

For a gas burner there is very little gains besides changing shift points and correcting speedometer from oversized tires A diesel......worth every penny and then some, my 7.3 picked up 4 mpg and picked up a boatload of power. I put a intake and exhaust AFTER the tuner and it picked up power after those additions as well Anyone with a 7.3, get a dp tuner. They have a drive thru mode which cuts out the noise in your engine so u can order.....and a lope tune.....and for the hooligans a smoke tune 
Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........
