Who all has had it done and what kind of recovery time am I looking at? This sucker hurts and it's not getting any better. It's been 2-3 months and it's not healing on its own.

I tore mine last march(2014). I opted for PT first. I did that for a month. It helped a lot. It kept me away from the knife. I've just recently started with a little discomfort. However, I know that I over did it with some lifting. With ibuprofen 800mg once a day I do fine.

GO NOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had it done. Recovery is extremely rough. Total recovery with PT around 3-4 mos. you'll feel better at around 2-3 weeks. Mine did anyway. The damn PT is rough to say the least.

I've had shoulder surgery twice, but not as bad as rotator tears. The only advice I can give you is do all the PT prescribed after the surgery, even when you think your arm is about to rip off at the shoulder. They won't have you do anything that will hurt you (except short term pain) and it will make the shoulder stronger after it heals. Good luck.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Have had two surgeries on my left shoulder. PT is the kicker. You sure just rotater cuff? Good luck and take it easy.

Depends on the amount of damage. Had mine "cleaned up" back in December and not 100% yet, no pain but haven't got all my strength back. First 2 months of therapy are rough but you gotta do it or lose mobility.

I have no idea what it is..... Anything reaching across my body hurts.... Buttoning pants type motion. Up and down ain't bad but holding my kids in my left arm is a no no. I cannot do a push-up at all. I could do 50 or so without stopping and now not even one. I guess I need to drop by a doctors office one day and see what they say it is.

Go see a Dr, get an MRI, that is really about the only way to "see" what's going on. May also want to research a good shoulder Dr. The last Dr that did mine was from Houghston Clinic.

Whatever you do... Go to a good doctor.... A good friend of mine had it done and went with a not so well known doctor.. He had to have two more additional surgeries to remove scar tissue just to get full function back in his shoulder... He was miserable for 7-8 months...

Had left shoulder done a few years back. As mentioned - it hurts. They had to put two pins in mine. Recovery was not fun. Physical therapist must have been an ardent student of the Spanish Inquisition. Full recovery.

Shoulder surgery sucks period. The rehab time isn't all that bad. I had a right shoulder reconstruction in 2000 and it took 6 months to be back to full strength. If you do the home program the therapist gives you, your recovery time will be much shorter than if you don't.

sounds like you are describing a torn labrum. I had one and did not have to have surgery, but it took 7-8 mos. to get it rehabbed right. they should do a arthrogram and MRI to confirm.

Is it just the rotator cuff or the RC and labrum? I tore both and it was absolutely horrible. The immobilization sling they put you in makes you bout have to sleep in a recliner sitting upright, lets not even discuss making a push.

The PT was horrible, I started off with light weight bands, and by the end was using 5lb kettlebells. If you dont do the PT like they say you wont get your full range of motion back.

All in all it sucks.

Don't let these weenies on here scare you. I tore mine late July of 2013. Tore the Subscapularis Tendon and Suprapinatus Tendon in mine. Also fractured the Humeral Tuberosity. Went and saw Dr. Jeffery Davis at St. Vincent. He's been with Dr. Andrews since 1995. I recommend seeing him. He sliced open the front of my shoulder (3 inches) and went in and repaired the Subscapularis Tendon. He repaired the other with a scope. The fracture didn't displace, so no plate was necessary. I start PT immediately. Three sessions a week. The first two or three were rough because all they did was stretch my shoulder. After that, the therapy actually made it feel better. I did this 8 weeks. 10 weeks after my surgery, I killed a doe with my bow!!

this!!! the nurse will tell you "don't get behind on your pain killers, even if the pain isn't too bad." DON'T!!! you will regret it and it is hard to wrangle it back under control once at that point.
ice is your best friend, as well as a recliner (spent first month sleeping in mine).
slap-bankhardt procedure on mine, so immobile time was longer, friends that had only rotator cuff were working on mobility if not the next day, then two days out.
i was on the table when hurricane ivan blew through Columbus, ms (early sept) and cleared to shoot a shotgun on dec 19.

If you have not tried PT you owe it to yourself to try that first. It was all I needed to fix mine a couple of years ago right prior to my 60th birthday.

Have you been to a Dr. yet? That sounds like mine was and I would have sworn I tore the rotator playing softball. I even remember the play in which it started hurting. After awhile it started hurting when I drew my bow so I finally went to a good ortho and an MRI. He diagnosed me with an impingement which is still a surgical fix, but much better than rotator repairs. If you haven't been diagnosed yet, that might be what you're looking at.

July 9th will be a year from my repair. Had rotator and labrum done. I started PT the next day. I pushed myself and the patience of my therapist but was able to bow hunt the last week of October. I've heard it's the worst surgery to recover from, pain wise, but I'd say pain is relative. I NEEDED the meds for the first 48-72hrs but went without as best I could after that. Looking back, I made the right decision. Dr Adkinson at St V did mine. Very pleased with the results.

Mine was a torn rotator cuff and a large spur that had to be removed. I drew my bow 8 days after surgery to impress my nephews. That's when the pain started. Do the PT. I was throwing BP to our high school baseball team in January about 4 months after my surgery.

I still do some therapy and had my surgery 3 years ago. It ain't what some folks make it out to be (real bad). Had large bone spur, torn rotator, torn labrum, split in deltoid, torn bicep, and displaced scapula. Take that medicine the first few days, though. The Hughston Clinic did mine, Dr. Gerringer. I highly recommend him.

I've had both left and right rotator cuff tears repaired, been 6-7 years since the last was done and now I'm fine. It takes about 6 months to get back to normal if you don't consider normal to be bench pressing 2X per week ... Takes a few years for that.

I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin

It depends on a lot of things. How bad is injury? How much does the surgeon have to repair, overall patient health and condition. My experience with family members and patients who've had it is that FULL recovery can take up to a year. Most are doing pretty good by 6 months. All say the first couple of months of PT are hell.

We will find out what it is Friday at 9:30. Hoping I just pulled something and it doesn't require surgery because if it does I will procrastinate until it is about to fall off and then have it done.

Had mine done and agree with this 100%.

I have to get a MRI tomorrow afternoon on my right shoulder. I really hope i dont have to have surgery. Praying that scoping it and cleaning out a bunch of scar tissue and bone fragments is all i need. Shattered my collar bone in college playing baseball.

MRI scheduled for Tuesday with dye in my shoulder. He said it's not a rotator and thinks it's a torn labrum (sp). Says depending on what the Mri shows that a steroid shot and therapy may be an option. If not its orthoscopic and lots of fun stuff after that I'm sure.

Good luck buddy. I hope they fix you up, a torn labia sounds painful.

Had to have my shoulder and upper arm redone in January, I'm at about 50% now.

You won't know what you've got messed up until you have an MRI. I had very similar symptoms to what you have and in neither shoulder was it a torn Rotator Cuff.

I have/had a partially torn labrum in both shoulders. A cortisone shot in my left shoulder helped with the inflammation and I have had no more problems with it.

My right one still hurts from time to time, either the partially torn labrum or the now developed bone spurs and cortisone shots only help for about a week. Bee stings help much more. Honest injun.

Basically the Doc (Dugas at St Vincents) told me if I could take the pain, I didn't have to have surgery.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

When I was in college, I had a major shoulder surgery. I had a torn labrum, broken acromium process, and a whole laundry list of messed up stuff. I was under the knife for 6 hours. I got a screw and 4 tacks.

I had to start PT the next day in the training room. Hurt about as bad as anything I can remember. However, within 6 months, I was pretty much full speed in the weight room. That was about 13 years ago and I rarely hurts me, but my 270 is all the rifle I want to shoot and a 243 is felling pretty nice.
