Who all has had it done and what kind of recovery time am I looking at? This sucker hurts and it's not getting any better. It's been 2-3 months and it's not healing on its own.

I tore mine last march(2014). I opted for PT first. I did that for a month. It helped a lot. It kept me away from the knife. I've just recently started with a little discomfort. However, I know that I over did it with some lifting. With ibuprofen 800mg once a day I do fine.

I had it done. Recovery is extremely rough. Total recovery with PT around 3-4 mos. you'll feel better at around 2-3 weeks. Mine did anyway. The damn PT is rough to say the least.

I've had shoulder surgery twice, but not as bad as rotator tears. The only advice I can give you is do all the PT prescribed after the surgery, even when you think your arm is about to rip off at the shoulder. They won't have you do anything that will hurt you (except short term pain) and it will make the shoulder stronger after it heals. Good luck.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Chad I have no idea what it is..... Anything reaching across my body hurts.... Buttoning pants type motion. Up and down ain't bad but holding my kids in my left arm is a no no. I cannot do a push-up at all. I could do 50 or so without stopping and now not even one. I guess I need to drop by a doctors office one day and see what they say it is.

Go see a Dr, get an MRI, that is really about the only way to "see" what's going on. May also want to research a good shoulder Dr. The last Dr that did mine was from Houghston Clinic.

Whatever you do... Go to a good doctor.... A good friend of mine had it done and went with a not so well known doctor.. He had to have two more additional surgeries to remove scar tissue just to get full function back in his shoulder... He was miserable for 7-8 months...

Shoulder surgery sucks period. The rehab time isn't all that bad. I had a right shoulder reconstruction in 2000 and it took 6 months to be back to full strength. If you do the home program the therapist gives you, your recovery time will be much shorter than if you don't.

I had one and did not have to have surgery, but it took 7-8 mos. to get it rehabbed right. they should do a arthrogram and MRI to confirm.

Is it just the rotator cuff or the RC and labrum? I tore both and it was absolutely horrible. The immobilization sling they put you in makes you bout have to sleep in a recliner sitting upright, lets not even discuss making a push.
The PT was horrible, I started off with light weight bands, and by the end was using 5lb kettlebells. If you dont do the PT like they say you wont get your full range of motion back.
All in all it sucks.
It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.
