I learned of this this morning when I got to work.I can tell you this all of my meats come from the U.S. and I will display my country of origin signs until they make me take them down.I don't agree with this crap one bit.We lost a huge battle this time. For years we have dealt with Chinese seafood and the antibiotics, the canadian beef problems and many many more problems. No sooner than we get this crap solved they pull this crap!Really pisses me off as a meat supplier and a consumer. mad

May I recommend all of you in AL District 3 call/email Congressman Mike Rogers? He represents YOU (allegedly) and voted FOR this chit.

Mike Rogers
DC Office - 202/225-3261
Anniston - 256/236-5655
Opelika - 334/745-6221

Email Mike Rogers here

If you don't know if you are in the 3rd district, look at this map.

If Americans would quit buying meat when this happens, it wouldnt take long for them to change their mind. A meat boycott will never happen though.

If people would start chewing arse on politicians that THEY voted in, it would make a nice dent too.

They didn't vote to remove country of origin labels. They voted not to require them.

It is up to consumers to buy products that are labeled "raised in the US" if that is what they want.

Do we want less government or not?

According to the article, this does not remove the country of origin requirement for seafood.

My problem with this isn't the rule and change so much as it is OUR government caving for the WTO. Does Canada or Mexico REALLY want a trade war with us? I think not.

I read one comment where someone asked "what if they did this for other products, like gas?" If I had the opportunity to but American drilled, American refined, and American sold gas I absolutely would & would be willing to pay a little more.

I think anyone selling US raised/killed meat should absolutely make it known it is an American product and let the free market reward them.

Exactly - the House vote REFLECTS CAPITULATION TO AND SUBSERVIENCE TO THE JUDICIAL TRIBUNALS OF THE WORLD TRADE (GOVERNMENT) ORGANIZATION.

Therefore, all members of the House of Representatives who voted in favor of this are GUILTY OF TREASON, treachery, backstabbing, betrayal and total utter incompetence.

There are already USDA programs for source verified, raised in the US, born in the US, etc. Companies are free to label the source of their product if they believe it gives a competitive advantage and some do.

http://www.ams.usda.gov/AMSv1.0/getfile?dDocName=STELPRD3320450

I see on Aldeer all the time that we want less government, smaller government, less interference, more consumer driven choice....then when it happens there are complaints that the government is caving, not protecting us, etc.

There are areas of our lives that 'some' government is needed. Food inspection is one of them.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

This is a labeling/marketing issue. Not an inspection issue. The free market can take care of a labeling issue if consumers really care enough to buy American and the verification mechanisms are already in place.
