The majority of the hunting land is owned by Wells Timberlands and Plum Creek. Niether of them have any leases available right now, but they generally don't until June or so. After current leases are due to be paid. It is fairly pricey. Most of their properties are in the $10 an acre range.

We lease from Wells in Russell county. Good area and be prepared to pay $11 plus an acre.

he subleases a lot of Mr. Dudley's land, and owns a good bit himself. Mostly around the cottonton, holy trinity, ft. Mitchell area. Those areas happen to be the best in Russell county, probably the best in Alabama truth be told.

I'm partial to southern russell county along barbour line. Ain't hunted a prettier more diverse piece of land in my 25 years of hunting,nor have I seen the abundance of wildlife,deer,turkey,quail,etc Anywhere else in the state. Be prepared to pay for it. We've leased from the same private land owner for the past 25 yearS though.

If anyone is interested, Dudley posted an add on afoa.org for a 1200 acre lease. $20 an acre is a little steep for me though.

Plum Creek

I hunted some of the land that Gary Day handles for Mr. Dudley for about 15 years. It's pretty good hunting around Fort Mitchell, and we would still be hunting it now if they had not sold the land that our camp was on. BRAC (base realignment and closures) increased the population of Fort Benning, and real estate prices jumped near there, so the lease price of our little club was a drop in a bucket compared to profits from selling to developers. There are at least 200 new houses on the land we were hunting just a few years ago. We had the land right across from the Gate at Fort Mitchell. I really miss that place. I had an option to keep the remainder of it, but without a camp....
