A couple months ago we had a discussion on the forum here about how the the current generation of Tacomas (2005+) often exhibited a drivetrain shudder or vibration upon acceleration that Toyota was either unable or unwilling to fix. Some guys had even replaced several components with aftermarket parts to try to fix the problem with doubtful results.
If I were shopping for a used Tacoma, is there a time in the current Tacoma generation where the vibration or shudder is no longer a problem? Say, for example, by 2011 had Toyota fixed the problem?

I have a 2009 and I have not experienced anything like that so far.
But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?

Both of my 07s did it and there was too much grease in the driveshaft slider coupling. I took the grease fitting out, hooked my 16 foot trailer to the truck/loaded the tractor to compress the slider/push grease out and I've never had another problem.
After doing this DO NOT let anyone grease the slider when servicing or changing oil in the vehicle. Just a small shot of grease about twice a year should be all it ever needs if that much

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

My 07 Fj had that problem. The drive shafts were the culprits & mine was still under warranty so they replaced mine..

That let's the drive shaft slide forward/backward on the back of the trans as the suspension flexes? If that's the case, one aftermarket option that might fix it is to buy a CV drive shaft like a Tom Woods and a Slip Yoke eliminator kit. (Not sure if such is available for Tacomas) Very common on jeeps as lifting them puts the stock drive shaft at too much of an angle for the Slip Yoke to accommodate and results in, you guessed it, driveline vibrations.

I have fixed a lot of slip joint problems by cleaning the spline inside and out with solvent, then apply a good coat of syn. wheel bearing grease. As the suspension goes up and down the slip yoke has to move in and out smoothly. Matching the angle of the pinion and the out put shaft of the trans. helps too.

I've never experienced that in my '08 either.
We were on the edge of Eternia, when the power of Greyskull began to take hold.

They have a dampener inside the rear drive shaft that looks like plastic cardboard, if it breaks loose it gets them out of balance. Had one replaced on my old '06 under warranty.

Slip yoke, slider coupling, underblat spline bearing . . . I don't know what any of that means. But maybe Wiley is right: I have heard someone say -- I'm not at liberty to say who she is -- that too much lubrication is not good . . . that you need just a little friction to make things work right.
Anyway, if I'm ever able to get a newer Tacoma I will probably never take it offroad or pull a boat. It will stay squeaky clean, I'll only engage the 4WD if there's snow on the road, and I'll just use it to drive gently and slowly to the Dollar General, Wal-Mart, and the church house.
Oh yes, and I want those cool TRD stickers on the sides too. I'm not kidding.
