Gents,

We've kicked around the idea of getting together somewhere to swap ideas, shoot muzzleloaders and such.

What about May 9 - a Saturday - at the Swan Creek WMA range in Decatur? Plenty of benches, 25/50/100 yard range, covered, etc. Being a Saturday in May perhaps it wouldn't be too crowded.

Maybe meet midday or after lunch? Would be fun to meet and burn some powder. My next best date would be May 23 (due to family commitments, tied up other weekends) but that's Memorial Day weekend so it could be iffy for some.

If not on May 9, let's toss out some other ideas or possibilities. We don't have to go to a specific state range, either, if someone has a pasture or private range to offer for a few hours.

Clem

We have a handful now ... probably/possibly a few more might jump in.

May 9? May 23?

Since I won't know until 2-3 days beforehand, I say y'all just pick a date and I'll do my best to make it.

Let's try for May 23 if possible. Have an event Saturday morning I'd forgotten about plus our daughter will be home from college.

August is better for me... we just bought our own spread and have to be moved out of our rental by the end of the month. Much work to be done! (packing, moving, not to mention barn repair/upgrade, fencing etc at the new place)

What do y'all think about Saturday, Aug 15? Maybe in the morning before it gets hot?

Got out by about 9am saturday (was aiming for 8am, but we had to stop to get eye protection and some breakfast for the girl).

I set up my daughter with the .22 while I futzed with the ML rifle, but unfortunately I forgot to set off a few caps first! Got it loaded up with 70 grains of FF plus a patched round-ball, fired the cap -- fitz! No boom. Tried another cap, same result. Grabbed a safety pin and picked the nipple, tried a third cap. no boom! I was able to get the ball puller into the ball, but sadly without a pair of pliers I didn't have a good enough grip to pull the load.

Ahwell, thankfully I had brought my black-powder revolver as well. I shot a cylinder for myself, then let my daughter try it. Turns out she likes that better than the .22, so I spent most of the rest of the morning loading it up for her to shoot smile.

We had been shooting at paper targets on cardboard boxes, but someone had left a few un-broken clays behind so we set those up on the 25yd berm. First shot I broke one (the one I was shooting at, even!) but with 6 more shots I couldn't break another.

Baby girl was tickled by the one shoot-n-see target that I had (it came for free in a pack of normal paper targets), so on the way home we stopped at a gun-shop and picked up a package of those for next time (I don't pay that much for targets for me, but if it keeps her happy and wanting to shoot with me, I'll buy shoot-n-see targets all day long!)

All-in-all a good day, even if I didn't get to shoot my ML rifle!
