How does a town with "5,000 people" per wikipedia have a 7A high school? Can somebody enlighten me?
Anybody live there and give me some insight as to if its a good place to live?

I live in Phenix City which is 5 miles form Smiths but am located in Lee County which is the Smiths school district. There are very few places to build a home but in Lee County which is in the Smith Station School zone has an abundance of land to buy and build. The school systems are second to none and are all relative knew due to the population boom over the last 5 to 6 years. Taxes are low. No city/county garbage pick up. No sewage system just septic tanks. Great place to live. Me and my 3 kids and their spouses as well as thier 9 children(my grandchildren) live in Lee county and all but two attend Smiths school system.

I grew up and hunted around Smiths. Great people and town.

I've helped shoot the youth sports there for several years, great folks.

What others have said. One of the best, if not the best school systems in the state. Lee County in general is a great county to live in. ...Just make sure you're not inside Chambers or Russell counties. Both are 180 contrast to Lee as far as school systems go.

I was once told by a person in the school system up there that Smith Station HS was one of a few schools to go through all classifications 1a-7a. I don't know if its true was just what I heard. I also was told by the same person that the school exploded when the base up there expanded.

I work at Smiths Station High School and live in Lee County. The actual "town" of Smiths Station is very small, consists of a post office, gas station, and a Subway (which is the only place to eat in town). The town is about a half a mile off of highway 280 so it doesn't get any road traffic and is literally one of those towns that if you blink you miss it. As far as the reason that the school system is so large is because Smiths Station High School services all of the southeastern side of Lee County which is a very large area. The school system also allows for residents with a Phenix City address who live in Lee County to attend Smiths Station Schools. This is the reason that we have 1,476 students at Smiths Station High School in grades 10-12. We have a large influence of "white flight" due to parents not wanting their kids attending Phenix City Schools (if you know anything about the history and demographics of Phenix City you will understand what I am talking about). We are a great school system but just like any public school system we have our share of bad apples but for the most part the good always outweighs the bad. The community is very involved in the school and it really is a great place to work. The only downfall to living here is the fact that everyone thinks their land is worth a million dollars because it is "close" to Auburn. Hunting leases are hard to find and clubs can be very competitive to join. I am lucky to be able to hunt our farm here so I get to avoid the headache of trying to find land to hunt or lease because you will go broke trying to pay what some of these idiots think their 100 acres of sandy pine trees is worth. I live in the Crawford area right off of highway 80 and is a great place to live, very quiet area that is away from "town". If you have any other questions please let me know and I can try to fill you in!
