Like a few others on ALDEER, I regret buying a Honda ATV with the electric shift. Seems the electric shift system is weak and gimmicky, and most of these ATVs have shift problems after a few years. Well, as you can see from photo #1, I purchased a new angle sensor for my Rancher 350: The problem now is that I can only get one hand (not two) on the old angle sensor. I could probably get the old one off, but getting the new one on would be nearly impossible with one hand. Plus, it's not just a simple matter of installing the new part. You have to "PRE-LOAD" the new sensor . . . whatever that means. I have no idea what kind horsepoop "pre-load" is. Then you have to do something Honda calls "INITIAL SETTING" where you get the computer to re-set the shift motor and mechanism or you won't be doing any electric shifting. You can bet my owner's manual doesn't say a word about any "initial setting." So, I come to the point I always do with anything mechanical. I have to improvise and make do. I have now attached the emergency shifter to the post with JB WELD, and I have added a high tech shifting extension handle to it as you good men now shall see: Woooo! Somebody say AMEN right there!

Never understood why anyone needed electric shift.

So, somebody tell us about pre load and the calibration. I've got to do that with mine.

Never understood why anyone needed electric shift. It can be nice when your riding around , on gravel roads and pastures OR easy terrain. I got an 07 in 2008 with 89 miles on it. It now has 5500 miles on it. I had an angle sensor go bad once, then again in 2 weeks. Honda said = Their like light bulbs, sometimes they go bad. I was pissed to say the least. 13 day and they said WE dont take electronic parts back! Thats the only problem I have had with the Hondas!

X2 Rock on VT. Your manliness is fully intact. You might ask you wife to let it our of her purse every once in a while though.
One day the right woman will come along and the next thing you know you'll be wearing her underwear!

i'll just fabricate something to use the manual backup. Yeah, that's what I did -- I fabricated a device . . . using JB WELD. ~~~ JB WELD for those of us who don't know about real welding!
