Have you got that story penned down? If so, I hope you choose to share it. That'd be a good read! thumbup

No real story - I went to Germany to visit for a couple of weeks in 1974. Father was sent there as a GS civilian missile technician (Redeye/Chapparal). I had been out of the Army about a year, was somewhat going to school here so went over. It was a nasty rainy day, about 1/4 mile from the village where we lived I saw a young girl attempting to get a ride but cars just passed her. I stopped, she didn't want to get in because I was a foreigner but did anyway. Later she said if it hadn't been raining she would not have. She was doing her student teaching at an institution for really "special" kids nearby and had missed her bus. We talked as best we could, I got contact info at the hospital from her. I stayed in Germany for two years. Went to school, got a job as a bartender, ya'll can figure out the rest. Will be forty years married next month. grin

Nope- I picked up roadkill from a really bad incident back in'98. Had the front right wheel of a Humvee center my chest. Like most, I've had a few serious incidents. This one all but killed me though. Went around with the tire track imprinted on my chest for about a month. One day somebody, well meant of course, asked me how I was doing. At the time about all my ribs were broke, sternum crushed, lungs pancaked, and I answered "Like a damn roadkilled raccoon" and it just stayed with me.

Pretty simple really - Ft McClellan, FTX, I'd been on duty all night, was still dark when I got off so I crashed at the edge of a bivouac area, a'hole MP drove through the bivouac area without a ground guide. Generators were running, trucks on the road, lots of noise. Woke me when the front wheel hit my left shoulder, rolled up on my chest then lights out as it collapsed. DRT. Almost got another couple of guys, they started hollering, he stopped. Medic got me breathing again, everything was really busted up. I walked out of the hospital the next day. Had tire prints in my chest for weeks. Needless to say it made an impression on me.

Being one of the more "evolved' type males there wasn't a lot to start with but the EKG pads and bandages pulled out what lttle was there anyway. Just one of those things that happened. I got over it. But you can bet I pay attention now when I hear a diesel start up. Don't want to go through that again.

I was going to ask what kind of roofing design you have when I realized it was the bottom of an umbrella.
