I'm looking at buying a truck from a guy in TN. Looking at the Madison County tag site I saw where I have to pay local sales tax on a vehicle that I buy out-of-state. Why is that (other than the obvious money-grab)? Seems to me that this is just a rip-off. Anyone know the actual reasoning behind it, or is it just a sorry-azz money grab?

Because you are not required to pay TN sales tax on the vehicle?

Isn't there something in the AL tax form to account for items bought on-line that don't have state sale tax?

Because Obama said you gots to pay "your fair share". I'm sure you've heard him say it.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Remember, these are hard times and the cost of running a municipality goes up. Have to pay taxes to keep people in jobs and keep the city/county running. Lol Kinda like the drivers license increase, because they can. Some are ok with it.

Isn't there something in the AL tax form to account for items bought on-line that don't have state sale tax? Yes, there is. Its called Use Tax. Also companies in Alabama that purchase items from outside of the state and do not pay sales tax on the item are required to file a Use Tax Return each month just the same as a company files a Sales Tax return each month.

That also applies if you buy a vehicle from an individual. When you go get the tag you are required to pay sales tax on the purchase price.
