Although this is very likely to change, here is the snowfall total GFS forecast model for next Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Also showing close to single digit low temps for North Alabama by next Friday morning.

If the models are right and it pans out I'd hope for cold, wet rain if I were down that way. The GFS is pushing the freezing line all the way to Mobile during the day Thursday with a mess of sleet and freezing rain.

Forecast models. There seems to be growing concern with many of the weather discussions today. If the models pan out this could be horrific with a significant ice/snow combo for much of the state.

Actually it's ice, not snow. Big difference. As a matter a fact, snow doesn't bother me at all and I've been getting around in it just fine for 4 days now. Crippling ice and widespread power outages is a completely different ballgame. Keep your Prius down there in Yankeeland and you should be just fine though.

I sure hope that don't happen at all.

I'm over it for this year. We had a good snow, got to sled, build snow men, etc. Now it's a muddy mess around here. I'm ready for May. NOW!

For lack of a better word that sucks.

All the models are still in agreement. This is the GFS at 6am Thursday. Possible ice accumulations of .25-.50 inch and 2-3 inches of sleet/snow on top of that with 20 mph winds is a bad combination. This could get ugly.

Atlanta looks to be a close call for now. They'll be in the situation Birmingham was in last week with being right on the edge. Unless things drastically change, Birmingham won't be so lucky this time though.

Latest GFS model has slowed the system down and shifted the freezing line north a little. NAM model has also backed the precipitation amount down some and has temps not as cold. It'll be interesting to see which model is right.

The temp in Atlanta will be 61 degrees at 6am. So someone is way off on one of their predictions.

New 0Z Euro model run has sped up the cold air by 3-4 hours and shows up to a half inch of ice for the north and north central part of the state. This is only one model but if it happens to be the one that pans out it will be nasty.

THE LATEST GFS HAS IT LOOKING PRETTY MUCH THE SAME

The latest GFS run is actually slower with the cold air and freezing line by a few hours and a few hours could make a big difference in ice accumulations.

With Temps in the 70s the last couple days I just don't see much happening. Thursdays highs in NoBam in the high 40s. May cause a problem Wed night and early Th morning but it ought to be melted and gone real quick. Mountains in extreme NE Bama could be worse. Surfaces will be warm, tough for ice to form, especially the ground.
