Forecast models. There seems to be growing concern with many of the weather discussions today. If the models pan out this could be horrific with a significant ice/snow combo for much of the state.

This was released from the NWS in Huntsville earlier today.

TENNESSEE VALLEY...AS VERTICAL PROFILES BECOME HIGHLY SUPPORTIVE OF FREEZING RAIN LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING -- POSSIBLY TRANSITIONING BRIEFLY TO SLEET AND EVENTUALLY LIGHT SNOW AROUND SUNRISE THURSDAY. THIS EVENT CERTAINLY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CARRY A
MUCH GREATER IMPACT THAN THE RECORD BREAKING SNOWFALL THAT OCCURRED
JUST A FEW DAYS AGO -- GIVEN THE SIMULTANEOUS OCCURRENCE OF SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS AND BRISK NORTH WINDS -- AND WILL BE
WATCHED CLOSELY OVER THE COMING DAYS.

I've been watching it pretty close. Looks like we may be in for quite a big event.

Yup, this is going to be a big event, especially if they are able to call it this far out. All that pink area is hard freezing knock the power out rain.

The latest GFS run has that crap going all the way down to Mobile.

Actually it's ice, not snow. Big difference. As a matter a fact, snow doesn't bother me at all and I've been getting around in it just fine for 4 days now. Crippling ice and widespread power outages is a completely different ballgame. Keep your Prius down there in Yankeeland and you should be just fine though.

I sure hope that don't happen at all.

I'm over it for this year. We had a good snow, got to sled, build snow men, etc. Now it's a muddy mess around here. I'm ready for May. NOW!

THE MAJOR IMPACTS FROM THIS FORECAST WILL BE THE POTENTIAL WINTER STORM LATE WEDNESDAY INTO EARLY THURSDAY. THE GFS...ECMWF AND GEM HAVE COME INTO MUCH BETTER AGREEMENT WITH THE TIMING OF THE SYSTEM AND THE LOW LEVEL COLD AIR MOVING IN BEHIND THE FRONT. THE COLD
FRONT SHOULD MOVE INTO NORTHWESTERN PORTIONS OF CENTRAL ALABAMA
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WITH TEMPERATURES DECREASING RAPIDLY WEDNESDAY EVENING INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. AS THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGHS PHASE AN INCREDIBLE UPPER LEVEL JET IN EXCESS OF 180 KTS DEVELOPS ACROSS

MORE ISSUES WITH TREES AND POWER-LINES IF THE EVENT UNFOLDS AS THE CURRENT MODELS INDICATE. PLEASE CHECK BACK FOR THE LATEST UPDATES WITH THE EVENT STILL BEING OVER 4 DAYS AWAY. MODELS INDICATE THAT TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN NEAR TO BELOW FREEZING ACROSS AREAS ALONG

For lack of a better word that sucks.

All the models are still in agreement. This is the GFS at 6am Thursday. Possible ice accumulations of .25-.50 inch and 2-3 inches of sleet/snow on top of that with 20 mph winds is a bad combination. This could get ugly.

Is this going to hammer Atlanta as well?

I'm gonna put out a bowl to catch the ice so we can make some ice cream.

Atlanta looks to be a close call for now. They'll be in the situation Birmingham was in last week with being right on the edge. Unless things drastically change, Birmingham won't be so lucky this time though.

Tell me this is NOT going to affect Autauga County.

Latest GFS model has slowed the system down and shifted the freezing line north a little. NAM model has also backed the precipitation amount down some and has temps not as cold. It'll be interesting to see which model is right.
