I use a Malibu Stealth 12; very stable and well laid out. I also recommend you invest in a top quality seat and paddle.

There is a ton of info on the kayak section as well as the Alabama section of the crappie.com site

Depends. I'm assuming you are going to fish with it. What kind of water will you be on, and what is your budget?

I've been yakin for years now and my best advice would be buy used if possible and get the most comfortable seat and paddle you can afford like wew3006 said.

There are lots of good places online to find a deal on one once you know what you want. Alabamawhitewater.org, boatertalk.com, and gon forum, and Craigslist to name a few. Also if there is a rental place near you they will sell their demos and you can try it out before you buy it.

You will need a wide and stable boat. Jackson Big Tuna gets good reviews, but the dang thing is big and heavy.

Malibu makes a very stable, fisherman friendly kayak.

I have an Old Town canoe but now that my wife isn't able to paddle with me I would rather have a yak. I've enjoyed those lazy Sunday afternoon trips down the river but need something easier to paddle by myself.

Daniel, we are about the same size. It isn't exactly a kayak but close and a lot more stable and comfortable. Look at a beavertail stealth 2000. If you want to you can borrow mine for a day or so and see if you like it.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

It's stable as all get out too. I weigh 270 and when I launch it, I shove it off the bank and jump onto the dog platform and I ain't flipped it yet. It's my go to froggin boat. It's more stable than my 14/36 jon boat.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

I'd look at the Hobies. If you're mainly wanting to fish, being able to move around by pedaling makes it easier by freeing up your hands. They are pretty stable, too. I have an Outback that's stable, and I'd imagine the bigger ones are really stable.

I used to have a Jackson Coosa kayak and it is about dayum near impossible to flip one over. Very stable kayak and it was made just for fishing.
