I don't know that there is any public land out there. From what I know, it's all private and there is a large chunk high fenced. The hunting is however very good, and it is a very neat place. Although I wouldn't want to be anywhere around old cahawba come night time.

From what I've heard, it's out of town folks. Unfortunately that seems to be very common around here. Lots of bham and mobile money buying large chunks of land. = Big deer.

Drummonds have 7000 acres (Callaway/Ward) south of the Cahaba past Whites Bluff on the west side of the AL river and. 2000 acres on the east side where the gravel pit was. They have a high fence right down to the river seperating the two tracts on the west and they're fixing to fence the 2000 on the east sideas well. I live right across the river where the fence seperates the 7000 at the river but they dont have the rivers edge fenced and I watch deer walk down the fence to the river and walk around the end all the time. Like already stated, it already had the biggest deer in the country on it to begin with.
So weird.

I don't want an asterisk beside any huge deer I kill. Fair chase for me. They're probably fencing out as many big deer as they're fencing in.

Two white breads on the bottom, pork piled high with a skin, topped off by another slice of white bread for the crown and drizzled all over with the best sauce made. Good Lawd! I think I know what I'm having fer supper. Sorry for getting off the topic but Cahaba and the surrounding area is a great place to hunt and sight see. Leasing is just hard to come by even for locals, but to the highest bidder go the spoils. Good luck. Ha yeah lannies is my favorite in selma. However, it is not the place to go to if you plan on making it back into the woods at a decent hour. They really take their time there. But not much on this planet is finer than his BBQ sammich with a homemade skin on it.

Drummond has a billion reasons why he can do what he wants to. Believe me, I know. I wouldn't do it even if I had a billion though. To each his own.

My dad and him have become real good friends over the years since he bought the Callaway place. He invites my dad hunting a good bit. Wish I could join em at times.

Two Drummonds had the 7000 acres but had a falling out and thats why there's a fence seperating the two places now. One of the tracts are shooting every buck with less than10 points and killed like 130 or 160 bucks each year the last two years. They could just pour the nutrition to the deer they have and over time have some really exceptional deer. I wouldnt want to have to kill 150+/- bucks each year to improve a place if it were mine but too each his own. I dont hear anywhere near enough shots over there for them to be killing that many bucks, much less the number of does they need to shoot as well.
So weird.
