I was thinking their may be some "casual" turkey hunters like my buddy KBush on here. He loves hunting them but if he gets one or two he starts fishing. Thats what I meant. Thats seems "normal" to me and how I plan on acting after I kill my first one. With a little dignity. I would consider myself extremely casual. I typically setup, call, and video. I carry a gun, but most of the time it isn't loaded - unless we have entered some type of "Turkey Rodeo". Personally, I have zero interest in killing one; however, I would say that I am pretty intense about putting myself and whoever is with me in a very good position. I went a couple of years ago by myself to scout for a "Turkey Rodeo" we had entered and had two pretty nice gobblers came easily within gun range and I let them walk in hopes of getting them then next weekend. Of course, they didn't cooperate the following weekend I normally don't go if it's just me, but, just being in the woods is a good day, hearing one is a pretty good day, seeing any turkey is a very good day, and if we happen to have an opportunity - it is a great day.

That's how I am, only been turkey hunting 2 years, and the first year was just the last day of season and got lucky and got a gobbler. Last year I got a jake. I took my choke out not too long ago cause I didn't know what was in there and it was modified. Lol I don't even own a full choke for my mossy 500 20 gauge. I'd say I'm as casual as they came as far as turkey hunting. I did have a lot of fun going last year and am looking forward to it this season. Gonna go after one with a bow!

In my limited experience among true turkey hunters, thats because they are jerks. You could have 5K acres they have no hope of ever hunting loaded with gobblers they cant kill. The problem is they dont want you killing them either. Spoken like a true deer hunter! Lol! Maybe you and extremely high hunter should plan a trip to sea world during turkey season! i almost bit my tongue in half because i dont know your sense of humor well enough to post my initial reaction. just know that it was damn funny. Hell you already half way called me gay and now you're worried about my sense of humor? Lol! It's all in fun pal!

I went on my first turkey hunt thirty five years ago this upcoming season and have loved it ever since. It's a adrenaline rush that you can't explain to someone they just have to experience it for themselves. Once that happens it's left up to them to do whatever they want with it. The biggest problem that I ever faced with the folks that I've hunted with is they get hooked and turn into overnight experts and they start to focus on the kill instead of the hunt. Once they become a decent caller they tend to over call. Instead of sitting still and work the bird to you they want to run and gun. I'm not as fanatical about it as I once was but enjoy it when I do go and that is because I love to take my wife and my Godson. Calling a bird in for them is way better than me pulling the trigger. Now mid April when it starts to warm up we much rather be at Orange Beach with friends fishing and enjoying the salt life.

Reason I ask is those jokers in the turkey forum are off the reservation. I felt pretty decent about my old 870 pattern @ 40yrds till I went looking through their patterning thread. 400 pellets at 50 yards out of a 410 and crap like that. "Oh that could be a 80 yard gun man, nice pattern!" WTF, aint that what rifles are for?! It looks to me like I can kill one out to 40 with 35 and under being preferable. But you cant use those nutjobs as a measuring stick. i don't care how good it patters if the shot aint got the energy to kill , you gonna loose birds . i don't take no shots over forty and thats with a 10ga. imo ,,, turkey hunting is 90% set up , set up , set up . calling is the other 10%!!!! another thing i dont want to see no farther than i can shot if i can set up that way .

Come on James! Drive down any highway and compare the number of dead deer in the ditch to dead turkeys. And don't say there just aren't as many because I swear the turkeys far outnumber deer in areas of the Midwest but the ditches are still full of run over deer and the turkeys out there are supposed to dumb!
