Hey here's a tip regarding OAL. They all depend upon the book you are using when they should be based on your specific rifle. It's easy and cheap to measure your own too. When I started doing that my groups went from 2-3" at 100 yards to 1" at 100 yards. Many tools around but this is what I use :

Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length Gage Bolt Action

Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length Gage Modified Case 308 Winchester

One issue I did encounter with measuring my own length was this : Using polymer tipped bullets (Hornady SST and Barnes TTSX) I matched a bullet perfectly with my rifle chamber but ... it wouldn't fit in the magazine. I had to budge it in a bit so as to get clearance with the magazine. That shortened it some and probably cost me some accuracy. My only other options were to either not use the magazine or to mod that magazine ... something I'm contemplating doing next ...

I thought when Hornady came out with the GMX they advertised you could use the same load as the same grain SST.

Ok. Hornadys manual says 50.2 is max but as you can see above,
the hodgdon info says 48.2 is max??? I don't know which one to
count on. Any ideas?

This is common and why people always tell you to "work up". Each manual uses a different test gun so results are different.

I'm surprised Hornady has a heavier load than Hodgdon. It's usually the other way around for me.

Just start low and work up to 48.2. If you don't have pressure signs and feel the need to go higher, work up in .5gr increments.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks for the info again guys.
I'm still very much in the learning phase which is
where I'll stay for a while I'm sure.

Rule of thumb is to start low and work your way up.

Different manuals, different test rifles, different data. Always check multiple sources, find an average starting point and work up until you get what you want or you get pressure signs.
