i am 63 years old, creeping up on 64. my joints are too dang stiff. don't much like climbing trees any more. too much work because of stiffness, overall clumsiness caused by such.
BUT i want to take up bowhunting again, and climb trees.
anyhow, do any of y'all do tai-chi or yoga (yes, i said yoga) or anything else to retain/regain flexibility?
jokes are welcome, as well as advice ...

Going to get blasted for this but, find a CrossFit box. You will find more mobility and functional fitness there than anywhere. There are a TON of CF haters but it's the one activity that I've seen people from 14-84 do together.

Cross fit would be terrible for an older person, especially one with joint, and flexability issues. Yoga, and Pilates would be better options.

I agree. Doing exercise in moderation is what you need. Not a balls to the wall weight lifting competition.

I baby sit my 2 yo granddaughter every now and then, take the trash out when I'm told, stand up right and use good posture while pushing the buggy around Walmart, lift whatever she tells me to, and most importantly, keep testosterone at 900 + steel - n - a - pill + younger sexy nephomaniac wife and lot's and lot's of horizontal aerobics.
[img:center][/img]

Bare in mind I'm 52 yo and 50 pounds overweight. ....but I'm usually smiling from ear to ear.

I'm 63 too and had a couple of suggestions but I don't see it going anywhere with that now.

and crossfit is WAY too much to consider, at least right now. since i got my new puppy wednesday, i am up and own on the floor and the ground constantly, playing with her and treat training here. got five grandchildren, too, that require play time. can really tell just how out of flex i am. if i can just get flexibility and walking stamina improved, then i can think about aerobic stuff ...

It's really hard to say without assessing your physical abilities. But body weight excersizes and light stretching is a good start. From there you could move onto plyometric excersizes and interval training and static and ballistic stretching and weight training. But without an assessment of our physical ability levels it's hard to say.

Have to respectfully disagree with you both. Not everyone in the CF world does competitions or is a weight bouncing gorilla. We've got ladies well into their 60s at the gym I use that have improved flexibility and working stamina. Olympic lifting is just one discipline. CF utilizes many aspects of yoga and other methods to increase mobility and flexibility. Even my wife, at a spry 32, had issues with her knees while trying to train for a 5K. After a few weeks of strength training, not extreme weight lifting, she has no more pain. To each their own but this is one type of exercise that I truely believe in.

ok, let's make something clear: what i need is equipment free, home exercise. we ain't driving 60-mile round trip to a YMCA or fitness gym. this has to be HOME-based with no gear, no expense, other than cost of a DVD or two. the bride and i both will exercise.
