I've planted millet a lot, and as far as i know deer don't browse it. They may eat some of the seed heads, like on sorghum or milo, but they don't browse the plant much, unless they don't have anything else to eat. Lets just say, its not high on the preferred list of deer food.BTM, is more for birds, like dove, turkey, and ducks, than for deer.

Milo and brown top comes up really easy or they did for us. Takes the deer a while to figure out figure out what it is once the seed heads ripen but the turkeys love it.

I think sorghum is a little more expensive than millet isnt it? wgf(wild game food)sorghum, also referred to as milo is cheap, like $30-35/50 lbs. Broadcast at 15 lbs/acre or 5-7 lbs. in a mix. That's pretty dang cheap. I've got some spots where it's the only thing that deer will leave alone until it matures. After it matures, they eat the seed heads until they are completely gone. A lot of bang for your $$$$$.

Wow, some of ya'll must not have anything else around for the deer to eat, if they are mowing down BTM. Seriously guys, its way down the preferred list. I/C cowpeas, IMO, is the best thing you can plant for deer in the summer, and i would mix in some buckwheat and milo.

It has 100+ day maturity so you'd have green plants but it wouldn't have time for the seed heads to grow and mature. I wouldn't plant it later than mid june. I plant most of my spring/summer stuff in May to take advantage of available ground moisture. June-Sept can be pretty dry some years

People don't plant brown top millet for deer, its more of a draw for birds. Milo has some attractiveness, but its mostly the seed heads that the deer like. A few deer can wipe out a small milo patch fairly quick, because their only eating the seed heads. For fall, plant cereal rye/crimson clover/ radish mix.
