Does anyone know how to put a value on old barn wood? I've got "roughly" 75 1"x 8" boards that are 8'-10' long and 100 1"x 2" boards that are 8'- 10' long. I've also got 10 2" x 8" boards that 12' long. The lady i got them from said that the barn was there when they built their house in 1965 so i'm guessing they are from sometime in the 50's at the latest. The wood looks like it is some kind of oak. I will try to post some pictures i took of them when i get home.

Here are a few pictures that i took. I will take some better detailed pics in the next day or so.

If you know someone with a plainer,I would take some and have it cleaned up,it could be American Chestnut, and if so would make it more desirable, and more valuable.I have seen some of that stuff go for 14 dollars a board foot.

I would rather be turkey hunting

I've got access to over 20,000 board feet of heart pine. 3" x 7" x 20' boards. In the current condition they are about $1.00 per board foot. The finished product will bring $6-9 per foot.

I'm not sure about oak values though.

A guy made us the offer. Barn and house was over 75 years old. Still had newspaper in the walls from the 40's. Had some boards 20 inches wide. A lot that was 15 inches wide. He also took it down.

That's pretty cool and same scenario for us too. Barn and house both. Over 75 years old. It's the place my Dad grew up. He's wanting to level it. I'm going to try to talk him into keeping the barn though. It adds a cool touch to the property.

Well, I am sure someone will buy it. I have been building cabinets for almost 30 years so I have bought a lot of wood, some of it salvage. A lot of that looks way past weathered.
