The Wifey an I are planning to take a mini vacation next weekend since hunting season is done. She has been pretty patient from Oct, 15th till now, so I'm gonna carry her somewhere for a few days.

We have been to the GSMNP/Gatlingburg and Chattanooga way to many times, and I don't reckon that the Gulf is a whole lot of fun right now. So, what would be a good option within a days drive from Boaz/Gadsden area? We will probably leave Wed night or Thursday morning, and return Sunday morning. My wife AIN'T getting on a plane unless it is absolutely necessary, so flying is out of the question.

Whatcha got?

Never been there. Anything there for a feller to enjoy too?

I do enjoy food though. But I'm talking about a big slab of livestock on My plate.

This is one of the best times to be on the gulf coast. Mardi gras parades in Gulf Shores and Mobile the next few weekends. You can walk right into any restaurant without a wait plus lodging rates are cheap.

I agree with this, and would much rather be at the beach this time of year than the spring or summer.

Savannah, GA has more good dining than you could hit in a weekend. The history in that area is pretty cool too. I recommend the Avia hotel. There are several things to see and places to eat within a very short walk.

Some of the best trips me and Lucky Dog have taken were those where we stayed in a different place each night. Just pick several places you'd like to see in that amount of time and hit the road. Drive about 4-6 hours a day.

That sounds like fun, but, I know there is a closed season in Tennessee. And I don't think it opens until March. Does Georgia have a closed season too?

On certain streams, If y'all decide to go to Blue Ridge get with me and I can set you up on some honey holes on Rock Creek on the Blue Ridge WMA, and on the Toccoa River.

Some of the stuff on here about Northern Ga. sound kinda interesting, so we may wind up over that way. If so, I'll shoot ya a pM.

I haven't thought about going over towards Memphis or Nawlins. Love good music, but I'm not so much into bars or casinos.

Never been to Savannah. What are some cool things about that area?

Memphis ought to have some good BBQ'ed livestock though.

We go to Helen, GA about once every year and rent a cabin. I do a little fishing while there and then we do all the shops, and wine tasting. Good luck

I'd go with savannah. Me and the wife went to savannah in the spring for our honeymoon almost 2 yrs ago. We really enjoyed Savannah and are wanting to go back soon. We made the mistake of staying in tybee island. That area wasn't very nice and we ended up driving into savannah everyday and staying all day or making multiple trips. Next time we'll stay in the historic area. I think there are like 19 blocks in the historic district, good food, good history and daytime and night time fun.

It's not a Passion, it's an Obsession. That's what I tell my wife, but she promptly informs it's a disease to which is incurable.

I vote for Savannah, me and my wife usually go every year for the regional fruit growers conference. Lots of good restaurants and bars, If the weathers nice I like just walking around the historic district and courtyards.

Charleston and Savannah are both good choices. Plenty to do out there. If yall are into historical stuff you likely couldn't see it all in a week. There are a ton of tours and historical places in both cities. Plenty of good food, bars, and entertainment downtown.

Thanks to all of You for the responses. North GA was sounding pretty appealing until we started googling it. Not much seems to be open there this time of year. May be fun anyway. I still don't know which direction we will head. We may just jump in the Jeep, and see where We wind up. Savannah, Memphis, Gulf coast, they all sound good. Thanks again.

If you go to Memphis, check out Gus' Famous Fried Chicken.

Yep, Asheville is a fun town in general. Plenty to do within a 30 minute drive.
